NO.... This doc is a doozy... Perhaps, you should remind him/her that the TSH will SUPPRESS when you are on T meds -both syntheic and natural and both T4 meds as well as T3 meds, period. ~~Thyroid hormones suppress the TSH.~~ If your doc doesn't know this, I'd look for another. If s/he only treats by TSH your asking for trouble and you will not get your health back -unless your one of the .8% of Hashi patients that doesn't need T3. Ask for a Free T4 and a Free T3 test every time s/he tests your TSH, after all you have Hashi's right? Your T meds were just cut your meds in half. You will continue to feel worse. Guest guest
Thanks for your input BJ...it is appreciated. I have not lost hope in this Dr. as when I started feeling crapy (I knew I would) this past weekend, two weeks into the med adjustment, I called Monday morning and they were anxious to move my appointment up. I do have Hashi's...and discussed with her, at my first appointment (this is a new dr. I have only seen one time)the prospect of T3 as well...she believes it is a viable option. Maybe I am neive to think that she was trying to get a base line to work from...(?) I hope not...I want to believe she wants to help me. (she admitted to me that she is hypo also...better to have a hypo dr. on your side?) 8% not needing T3...do you have a link/research to support this? I would love to have it for her when I see her this tomorrow to help me plead my case. Also any research showing that TSH numbers are scewed because of the Hashi's antibodies? Thanks in advance! I will say, I am absolutly not afraid to tell her what I want/need! If I were, I would have just sat out the next two weeks and gone with the program...nope...not gonna do it! I AM taking charge and telling her what I want... I have been feeling frustrated, as I had just started loosing weight at a resonable rate, 1 lb/week and was feeling energetic and healthier than I had in years (only Dx'd July 2005). I also read in someone else's post about the link between low estrogen and thyroid replacement, etc...my estrogen was low as a result of surgery induced peri-menopause...now I am on estrogen/progesterone replacement (I'm 37 and started peri menopause 3 years ago, too early in the scheme of things, imo), maybe that (increase in estro) would necessitate the need for more levo.? Many problems to over come...trying to be patient...but it is hard when you want to feel healthy... Guest guest
Very helpful, thanks. It seems it wasn't my TSH numbers she was concerned about...it was my T3 @ 3.93, that she was alarmed. T4 was 2.5? and TSH was 0.01... Opinions on those numbers? Worked out another medication adjustment and more labs in two weeks... Thanks for your help!
