Guest guest
Dear M, That sounds painful! Is it red? Did it just appear out of the blue? How long has this been going on? Could it be from tight bra straps? Do you think these are EN lumps? Ok, enough questions! Off to bed for me! Goodnight All! Love,
Guest guest
Hi , It's not painful . . . thank God. Just large bulges, no color, somewhat soft. I have noticed this before, a few months back, at a smaller scale, and just wondered what the heck, maybe I'm just fat. I've showed my husband before, to which I got a 'hm'. Then yesterday afternoon, I was in the bathroom at work and happened to catch a glance at my neck. Bulging, roundess sticking out the top of my collar bones, both sides! I freaked, and showed a friend, asked her if it seemed normal . . . she didn't like it either. If I hadn't had to pick up all the kids and husband after work and travel an hour to get one of them to a prom . . . I would have gone to the ER immediately. This morning, they're still there and EVERY joint in my body hurts, even my toes! I'm thinking I should go to the ER. I want to look at the side effects of prednisone again, maybe it's that . . . or just losing 10 mgs/day is making me feel like I met a mack truck head on. I'm thinking severe water retention, but I've never heard of it doing this. But this is why I think it; while driving that hour to the prom, the seatbelt was over my left shoulder . . . it seemed to have pushed the swelling to the other side of my neck, causing it to go up into the right side of my face and ear . . . I actually had ear pain . . . and my right arm started to go numb . . . WHAT WOULD CAUSE THAT MUCH SWELLING??!? Is my heart swollen?? My sister was in the hospital for failing kidneys and SHE didn't get these things, as hugely swollen as she got!! See? =( I'm so upset . . . gonna go read up on the meds . . . see if I can find the answers. Thanks, M > Dear M, > That sounds painful! Is it red? Guest guest
M, were you told to cut back on the Pred by the doctor? You are to cut back about 5mg per day. You must do this slower than 10mg. This could be Pred cut backrelated, or Arther setting in, Calcium deposits or possible Sarcoidosis. Have your doctor check all possibilities. Guest guest
Yes . . . hi everyone . . . called the doc, told him what was going on . . . he's never heard of such swelling. I was at 60mgs/day, started to cut back to 50mgs on Wednesday. I was hoping he'd tell me to go the ER . . .he's in NY, can't see me, but wants to first thing Monday if this doesn't subside. He wants me to cut down to 30mgs today . . . if going down 10 mgs does this to me . . . I'm not sure cutting 20 more mgs is such a smart thing . . . may just go to the ER first . . . thanks . . . Guest guest
Dear M, I just got finished with the tract yardsale and logged on as soon as I could. I agree with Sandy and Shraon and probaby anyone who read your post. Get to the hospital/doctor asap. At the ER you may see a doctor who knows exactly what is going on. I know the ER is not a fun place to go and you can spend hours there, but with all the doctors on staff at the hospital they may have a specialist who knows what to do...and it would be like a " second opinion " ..which is good. Guest guest
Thanks, all, I ended up going to the ER. Explained everything to them and looked up this kind of swelling . . . happens with Cushing's Sydrome, which can be brought on by prednisone . . . but the ER doc didn't think it was that . . . I'm not on a strong enough dose, nor for long enough. I've had a pituitary tumor 20 years ago, so that could correlate as well . . . those tend to come back. Maybe I'm hypersensitive to any kind of cortisol. I was just concerned with blood pressure, or blockage, or something. He did a chest x-ray and that was fine . . . he seems to think I've got some kind of drainage coming down from my head and settling there. What? He doesn't know and I'm to follow-up with my gp on Monday. I'm thinking a trip to the endocrinologist is next . . . I guess I just try to stay comfy till then. And hubby wants my butt in bed NOW, so g'night all. Guest guest
Dear M, I'm so glad you got some answers and are going to have another doctor's visit on Mon. I do feel you are on the right track with going to an endocrinologist next. All hubby's want their wives to go to bed! <wink> I just couldn't resist that. I know what you meant, and I think he's a sweetheart to be taking good care of you. Have a restful night, M, and keep us posted, ok?
