Guest guest
Hello all, Just a quick intro. I'm 35 and have ptc and Chiari I. I first got the ptc back in 12/93, dx'd in 1/94, LP shunt 3/94 a few revisions and got Chiari 8/94, decompressed 2 weeks later, and shunt removed in 12/94. It is suspected that I got the Chiari from low pressure headaches associated with trying to get the valve right on the shunt. Then the shunt was acting as a vacuum, so it was removed. I was fine till July '99 when the ptc came back. I was getting ready to have a VP shunt placed when I got pregnant - And it went back in " remission " . It is now back, as of July this year, and a pressure of 36. This time the symptoms are vastly different. Besides the headaches: no vision loss, confusion, disorientation, numbness of the feet and hands, dizziness, some pulsing of my eye, and loss of hearing at times. I just had a MRI of the C-spine today and will find out the results on the 9th. We think there might be some problems with the Chiari or something associated with it. I can not take Diamox (allergic) or Topamax (headaches much worse),and the other meds (Lasix & Inderal) haven't worked in the past, (but I must try them again just to " prove it " for 4 more weeks) so that leaves me with no other choices but surgery. So that is my story. I would be glad to help whenever I can. Donna Dee
