Guest guest
It may be a problem of not enough fat in your milk--eat more fat! Sally
Guest guest
My son was also colicky, also exclusively breastfed. I tried eliminating the things you mentioned from my diet along with dairy, and it didn't seem to make any difference. We tried teas for baby (wouldn't drink them) and for me, still no relief. Tried Hyland's homeopathic, that didn't seem to help, either. The only thing we ever found that seemed to help was acupressure. We know someone who does acupuncture/acupressure, some Japanese technique that I don't remember the name of, and he showed us how to do it ourselves and sent us home with the tools (tiny silver, blunt-tipped things that you use very gently in a certain pattern on the meridians). We would do it each evening before he began to get colicky, and in the mornings when possible, he really seemed to enjoy the process and he was noticably less fussy and cried less. It's tough, I know. We were so exhausted and frustrated, and it doesn't help that people who have never had a colicky baby have no clue and seem to think you must be doing something wrong to be causing it. My personal theory is that some babies' guts are just immature and it takes some time for them to get working well enough to not cause pain at certain points in the digestive process. We were unaware of the NT kind of eating at the time, although we were eating a whole-foods, organic diet free of preservatives, trans fats or any artificial colors, flavors, etc., but I do wonder if it would have made a difference if I'd known about proper preparation of grains and legumes, because I was eating those. Guest guest
Dear Aubin, In China, the mother eats a diet very high in animal fats for 6 weeks after the birth of her baby--I am sure that scads of butter and cod liver oil would help solve the problem. I do sympathize with the fatigue! Sally

I do sympathize with the > fatigue! Thanks Sally. Next time around I'll remember that. I do have a lot more animal fat in my diet now than I did when my son was born, and plan to keep it that way. I wasn't veggie then, but wasn't as liberal with the butter and whole dairy products. I'm sure lots of fat-soluble vitamins help the mom recover from the pregnancy and birth, too.
