I've not seen Organic Vermouth, however my health food store carries

Organic Wine from California.

Hello Judy,

Congratulation on taking steps to improve your diet. As you have

found, CRON-o-Meter helps you to figure out your deficiencies and

excesses. What you need now is to get a plan of action to improve

your diet.

Some of the scientific publications that we have discussed here about

wine seem to indicate that there is not much health benefit from

drinking more than two glasses of wine per day. Excess drinking

increases your chances of accidents and may damage the liver.

Your note says that you drink a 750 ml bottle of wine on the weekends.

If you drink one bottle over two days (Saturday and Sunday) it is not

too much. However, if you drink one bottle on Saturday and one on

Sunday, then it is definitely too much. A 5 oz serving (~150 ml) has

around 125 calories. One whole bottle has 625 calories which is

equivalent to the calories of one meal. This number of excess empty

calories will not allow you to lose weight.

Your statement that you don't see yourself " going to an AA meeting "

indicates that you are concerned that you may have an addiction. Most

addictions start from psychological needs and get perpetuated by

chemical dependencies. You have to address both. People who

recognize themselves as alcoholics sometimes find it easier to abstain

from alcohol altogether rather than risk binge drinking by including

alcoholic beverages in their diet. This is something that you have to

decide yourself.

By having taken the initial steps toward Optimum Nutrition, you have

already made progress. All of us have had to abandon our bad eating

habits and bad foods to get to where we are today. This is

accomplished by perseverance and aiming for some tangible goals that

we set for ourselves. These are some links that touch on the subject

of psychology of substance addiction:

Psychology of Smoking

Drug Rehabilitation

Maybe you can change your life on your own and you may not need to

participate in AA meetings, but don't discount the possibility that

someone else can help you. In this group we provide support for

Calorie Restriction with Optimum Nutrition. From that point of view

we can suggest how to improve your diet to eliminate the problems that

CRON-o-Meter has pointed out.

Best Wishes,

Tony
