Guest guest
My friend is going through this right now. She already did the psych eval. Very interesting story there...the psychiatrist at one point became rude and even said things like " you're not really sick " and " you must have been an alcoholic " because she admitted to the occasional drink. Well, turns out they do that on purpose to test your resolve and also temperament. It was a very difficult thing for her to endure. She has also retained a disability attorney who said they are going to go after the autoimmune end of her illness (she has CFS, Fibro and also a very bad immune system) because he said that is easier than CFS and Fibro. I believe I heard that CFS is hard to prove, but that Fibro can now be claimed on disability (now that there are meds for it, it is a " real " illness *sigh*) Hope this helps. If you have any questions, I know my friend would be happy to answer them for you. Just let me know. Joy > > > > > Has any of you qualified for Soc. Sec Disability based on your Hashi's symptoms. Guest guest
good luck to you; the problem of hypothryisms and autoimmue Thyrodi disease needs to start being taken seriously; and in almost all cases; if DRs had Caught the problem ON time _And treated it Properly_ and not just looked at TSH,, folks wouldn't get to the point they needed to be on SS> but DRs are missing the boat on most patietns: but the criteria they are using for Hypot patiesnt and " temperatment is ALL wrong!! problem there is that a lot of us hypOts/autoimmuen patietns have massive problems with our hPA axis and nto just our adrenals...and we are stuck in FIGHT of Flight response. emperament?? i have a problem with that but , they better start understanding that thyroid patients will be in a foul mood and quick to anger after they have been sick for any lenght of time.. and IF a hypot person doesn't have an angry temperametn? it means that they are SO adrneally sick they can't stir themselves into their oh so natural Fight response:) they have gone past that to the most extreme " Fright " response..which is " frozenness " different alternative DRs are writign about this theory that chronic fatigue and the sheer exhaustion seen in some hypot patietns (to where htey can't get out of bed!), and compare it to the biology of other animals...and their " freezing " response when in extreme fear or danger from predator. its the last recourse. -Carol > > > > > > Has any of you qualified for Soc. Guest guest
Just a side note: Keep in mind that accepting a diagnosis such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibro may affect one's ability to be covered by health insurance. This information comes to you from more than one health care practitioner I have spoken with. Also there are certain mental health diagnoses that are also as good as the " kiss of Death " in terms of coverage or resources. Check with your own doctor or therapist if you are unsure. -Serena -- " Basically, civilization needs a new operating system, you are the programmers, and we need it within a few decades. Guest guest
good point:) the onus should be on SS to accept Autoimmuen Thyroid (including Improperly treated as a Valid diagnosis! the onus would then be the Government letting " Modern Medicien " know they need to Step up to the Plate and Figure out this Hypothryodi mess Once and For ALL! =the current " Standard of Care " and treatment for hypothyroidism is simply not Working for MOST patients! ( " most " could be 51% or 90% don't matter. -Carol > > Just a side note: Keep in mind that accepting a diagnosis such as > Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibro may affect one's ability to be > covered by health insurance. Guest guest
Thanks to all who replied. I have physical disabilities as well, including total knee and ankle replacement and heel reconstruction over the past 3 years. Also parathyroidectomy 3 months ago and chronic back and neck with degenerative disc and scoliosis. A workers comp board determined that I was 54% disabled over 10 years ago. My hashi's diagnosis is only the most recent. I was turned down by S.S. Disability initially and on reconsideration. I now have an attorney who is suggesting the psychiatrist to evaluate the psychological effect of my many ailments. I'm 58 years old and have worked most of my life. As far as health insurance goes, I am covered under a group plan through my retirement. I am paying $740. per month!!
