In fact, I'd bet that most people in this country making kefir use pasteurized, homogenized milk. If that's the best you can find, go ahead. --alan

Guest guest
, Kefir can be made with a large variety of milks included homogenized milk. It works just fine. Now my personal taste goes for kefir of raw milk and for me it will be goats. But if you have a camel at hand, you might want to try it. Just kidding... Guest guest
Becky, I'd be glad to send you some kefir grains of mine. Wait a week or 3 till I've recovered my stock. I've been sending all over the world the past few weeks. Till then you could have a look at the egroup " Kefir_Making " for more info. There's also a database where you could enter your name and maybe someone nearer to you would answer that he can also send you grains. The address for the database of worldwide kefir posters/senders is : http://66.46.11.99/clarkson/Show/son/kefir/default.asp Now, tell me what's piima ?. I'm really curious !. In a spirit to help, Roelof PS: mind you if I tell you that I believe the Kefir tradition is : " give your extra grains away for free " . My postal cost is around 5 US dollars. Now I know what money costs but still I don't like it. So if you have some equivalent in natural stuff to trade I'm open. Guest guest
, I really don't know much about GEM's cultures. I know they provide a lot of things but as far as kefir is concerned what's the point to buy a starter if you can get it for free as it use to be. Kefir has been handed over since generations from one individual to another. No profit here please !. Kombusha should be the same. It grows so easily !. For info on kefir please refere to the extra super egroup on named " Kefir_Making " which is very active. Ask Dominic and other posters for all you want to know about kefir and had never dared to ask before. Dominic's site is fantastic. Guest guest
Wow, Roelof, that would be great! All I know about Piima at this point is that it is a cultured milk product that tastes milder than both yogurt and kefir. So, I don't have any starter yet... If you are interested in either culinary or medicinal herbs, I've got lots to barter with or I also make homemade soap...Let me know if that interests you and we can discuss the details... Guest guest
Becky, I will be ready to send you some grains in a few weeks. Still, I would advise you to enter a demand for grains in the database (for the link, see previous message). Maybe someone close to where you live will answer and that would be more efficient. Guest guest
I noticed today that someone on the kefir site mentioned the same problems and I am dealing with Adnan with getting some grains. Is this the keeper of the site? Seemed to know about checking into the problem.. a Augustine I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.I wish you nough loss to appreciate all that you possess.I wish you enough ''Hello's" to get you through the final goodbye. ----- Original Message ----- From: Roelof Fransen Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2001 2:45 PM Subject: Re: It's all homogenized a,I want to let the owner of the site know the troublesyou had with the database. Guest guest
I also had trouble getting an e-mail sent on the kefir website, but I used a little trick I know to get my e-mail to the person I wanted to inquire to. Here is what you can do: When you are on the webpage listing the person you want to write to, click on View at the top of the screen and then choose Source. This will give you the code behind the webpage. You can scroll down and look for that person's e- mail address and then send them an e-mail! The e-mail address has to be somewhere in the code since the site sends that person e-mail. It worked for me and I already got a reply. --- In @y..., " a Augustine " <augustines@b...> wrote: > I noticed today that someone on the kefir site mentioned the same problems and I am dealing with Adnan with getting some grains.
