In the book " Reading the Body " , Ohashi writes, " Yellow skin relates to the liver and gallbladder. Bile and other liver secretions cause the skin and eyes to become yellow. Jaundice, of course, is the best example of a liver disorder causing yellow skin. " (p. 160) An exercise to open the liver and gallbladder meridians is to sit on the floor with the legs spread wide, lengthening the spine through the crown of the head, reaching for the toes of one foot with both hands, enjoying a few breaths, and then repeating on the other side. We're about to enter Spring, and in Chinese medicine, this time corresponds to the Liver and Gallbladder meridians. In " Staying Healthy with the Seasons " , Elson Haas writes, " The seasons change; we change. When we move outside the laws of nature, or resist change, we encounter difficulty. If we learn to live within these laws we will know health as our friend. " Staying healthy through the spring season means keeping your Wood element--your liver and gallbladder--in the best possible shape, with new attention to your nutrition, exercise, self-awareness and self-expression. Spring is the season of beginning, creation. This is a special time to be open to the new, and the season to clear out the past which is ready to leave. " Nutritionally, it is a good time to fast, or to do a liquid cleanse, creating a clearer harmony between your inner and outer lives. Your diet will become lighter... " Mental relaxation will allow you openness and peace of mind, while developing your ability to focus and to make clear decisions. Physical activity will help to clear and open the body and mind. Developing a regular exercise program is important now. " Making contact with your creative self is vital to spring harmony. Who are you inside? What do you need to express to feel free? You are continually creating your life; be aware of this, and dance and play the tune that you are! " As you can see, a lot is going on in the springtime of life. It is important to clear out the past to create spaces for the future to come into being now. If there is no room for it, the new energy will get all clogged up in the system. When spring arrives, remember, 'ELIMINATION EQUALS ILLUMINATION.' " (p. 58) :-) Love and Peace, Adam
