Guest guest
My son with autism was prescribed Valtrex. Due to his hypersensativities to dye etc., we substituted Acyclovir for the Valtrex. My question is, does anyone know if it is as effective or not in general? Guest guest
Acyclovir does not cross the blood brain barrier and is not as bioavailable as Valtrex and we typically don't see the gains we see with Valtrex although a small minority of people have reported it working well for their child. I would try what you have and then consider moving up to Valtrex. You can wash off the blue dye or have it compounded by a pharmacy without the blue dye. - Stan > > My son with autism was prescribed Valtrex. Guest guest
We could not do Valtrex due it creating severe stomach problems in a kid who was not a gut kid. She said she felt like there were " knives in her stomach. " I had a long talk with Theresa Binstock this weekend and she said she has seen Acyclovir work well for kids, so try it.
