If the transplant was covered under a global contract with UHC primary, then

it's very possible that the followup care is covered under the contract

(usually for 90 days).

When did Medicare become primary?

If the pt was eligible for Medicare due to ESRD, and then turns 65 during

the COB, they must finish out the 30 months before Medicare becomes primary.

At least this is my take on it....

Hi, we have a post-transplant patient who is being told by UHC (retiree

plan) that they are primary for any services related to transplant

follow-up but Medicare is primary " for everything else " ... Also, can someone

clarify - if the pt turned 65 about 10 months into his COB, who is now the

primary payor? (Medicare's MSP info says UHC is still primary) I await

your wisdom, thanks.
