A safe pain med?

This is a post from the BrainTalk forum and I have the same question, although

our problem is complicated by needing coumadin.

*******************************************

We finally gave step-father the Ultram today for severe hip pain, and it was a

disaster. It caused increased hallucinations, complete disorientation that

lasted more than 12 hours, and worsened the Parkinson's symptoms = muscle

rigidity, tardive dykenesia (grimacing, lip smacking etc), inability to move his

feet or legs, and did not touch the pain. Back to Motrin now and waiting for the

Ultram to clear his system overnight, so we can see where we are. The combinaton

of Parkinson's & DLBD is very difficult to prescibe for. Has anyone found a safe

pain med?

So far, we have not had any problems with Advil, Aleve or Tylenol. Not strong

pain relievers, but some help at least.

Advil can cause internal bleeding. My Dad, who died of LBD, took advil

daily for the back pain of the Parkinson symptoms of LBD. He had tried

Ultram, but it gave him a terrible reaction of extreme hallucinations after

less than one day's dose, so we took him off that immediately. Anyway, he

developed bloody diarrhea, and became listless and couldn't get his breath,

so we took him to emergency at local hospital. They said the intestinal

bleeding may have been caused by the daily use of Advil.

My husband takes Celebrex and ibuprofin.

His legs are now starting to burn and I'm not sure why.
