Guest guest
Yeah, I keep getting the bacteria kind also, and I have had pnuemonia shots. Re: pnuemococcal vaccine You guys do know that the vaccine only protects against the bacterial form of pneumonia, not the viral form. >> > "Pneumococcal vaccination does not appear to be effective in > preventing pneumonia, even in populations for whom the vaccine is > currently recommended."> ?> > Alana, Id agree with this whole heartedly.? I worked in a nursing home and we had just about all of our residents in our wing vaccinated against pnuemonia. We had 6 or 7 of our older residents pass away from pnuemonia despite being vaccinated.? It really makes you wonder if the vaccine is worth it.? > > For what its worth, I dont get either the flu shot or the pnuemonia vaccine.? I might benefit from the pnuemonia vaccine in that my bronchitis might get less severe when I do get it, but I guess I just never give it thought when its time to get the thing.>
Guest guest
Some people do tend to be mroe naturally immunne to cetain illnesses. Last winter, we had a big outbreak of the Norovirus (winter vomiting virus), but none of my immetiate family were ill. However, I ahve since read that the 'B' gene in blood groups naturally repels several stomach illnesses, such as the norovirus, cholera etc. Not a massive amount, but some natural immunity. So that covers all those wiht B and AB blood groups. These are, though, the least common in the UK by quite a long shot. In my immediate family, mum is B, and me and dad are AB - we don't know about my sister, but I guess we can assume there is a B in there somewhere - which may be why we tend to not catch these things. When my sister was 8, Norovirus went round her primary school, to the extent that they were putting four classes in one as there were so many pupils off, and not enough staff either to cover them all (it was just before Christmas, and I'm sure with an outbreak like that, now, they'd probably just close the school early and have it deep cleaned in the hols). My sister was one of very few to not be ill. As a general rule, though, we don't get colds etc that easily either. I did not have a single day off ill all the way through high school and 6th form (7 years!) Jenn Tha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...! Don't brand me, don't classify me, don't tell me what to wear. I'll be who I want to be, and I'm proud to be me. Subject: Re: pnuemococcal vaccineTo: asthma Date: Tuesday, 13 January, 2009, 3:11 AMA bubble, ha! My daughter says I should just get a really big hamster ball. LOL. You raise a lot of really good questions Cindi. Maybe Ann and Matt can give us some insider info on those. I question the pneumonia thing as well. Especially as I just did some time for bacterial pneumonia. The cultures all came back positive. So, at least all the antibiotics (and subsequent need for Diflucan) were really necessary. I am lucky, I have never had the flu. Ever. I don't even get those little 3 day stomach/intestinal things that are always seeming to go around. I seem to have a natural immunity to that type of thing. My mom has never been susceptible to that type of thing either. Although, at this moment all bets are off. My antibiodies are pitifully low in the bloodwork that just came back today. There are several immune factors they look at weekly with me right now and my numbers are getting lower and lower. Gotta love those steroids!
