Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am diagnosed with chiari and TCS - but not EDS. I sometimes think I MAY have such a subtle case of EDS that my docs haven't identified it. I haven't bothered to pursue it because I'm doing pretty well overall. Now, to my point. I ate some fresh pineapple last night and noticed something again that I have noticed before when eating it: my tongue felt a bit raw and irritated. But THEN, a half hour later or so, I noticed something I've experienced before...but never associated it with pineapple: really bad cramps and IBS-like symptoms. I may have had these symptoms before when I ate it - but never put it together. So I thought " maybe I am allergic to pineapple " . Then I searched online and look what I found on www.wikipedia.org (for " pineapple " ): " Pineapple contains a proteolytic enzyme bromelain, which digests food by breaking down protein. Pineapple nectar can thus be used as a marinade and tenderizer for meat. The enzymes in pineapples can interfere with the preparation of some foods, such as jelly or other gelatin-based desserts. These enzymes can be hazardous to someone suffering from certain protein deficiencies or disorders, such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. There is significant evidence pointing to the anti-inflammatory benefits of bromelain.....Fresh pineapple may cause irritation of the tip of the tongue in some cases.... " Can anyone tell me HOW pineapple is bad for someone with EDS? Just curious... Also, anyone else out there sensitive to it? I'm really bummed because it's SO good! :-( in land
Guest guest
, that is SO weird you mentioned Pineapple. I have progressively gotten worse with my shoulders (and knees)and I feel I eat alot of pineapple. I got hooked on it I guess last year. I never associated the 2. Anyway I eat so much that my tongue is burnt for days. It has never caused me to have an upset stomach though, and I do have IBS. Thanks for sending that. I am going to stop eating it and see what happens! I have never been DXed with EDS but I feel I have it with the instability issues. Guest guest
Fresh pineapple is very acidic. I in no way can eat fresh pineapple. I get the burning tongue but also it causes ulcerated sores in my mouth. I asked my doctor about this and he says that it is the high acid in the fresh pineapple that causes this.
