Guest guest
I noticed in your update that your son has chapped lips as a result of being on Valtrex, is that a good sign? My 3 year old has been on Valtrex/Diflucan for approx 3 weeks now and we haven't seen any big obvious signs (rashes, fever, etc). The only thing I have noticed is a light spotted looking rash around his genitals, and his lips are sooooo dry - which is unusual for him. They just look horrible! Is this a good thing? I haven't heard anyone else mention this... This is giving me hope that this may be a sign that it is working. I have seen no regression so far, only slight gains - eye contact, more appropriate play, etc. He is still non-verbal, but I would swear that he told me to " move back " this weekend! I never thought I would be so glad to hear my son being smart with me! Just wanting some input on this from anyone willing to offer advice! Thanks! Guest guest
Colleen, I always look forward to your updates!! Wow, very interesting month. Do you think the valtrex was helping remove the metals from his brain to help the cognition as well as surpressing the virus but it hadn’t worked on the rest of the body tissues enough yet?? Just a thought. My son is also off at the moment and I am also experiencing the not sleeping issues again. Milk thistle is what worked in the past to get him to sleep through the night so I am wondering if the virus is overactive in his liver at the moment. He has had slightly raised liver enzymes all along. I’m glad he’s feeling better. Good luck, From: mb12 valtrex [mailto:mb12 valtrex ] On Behalf Of abelcstkd Sent: Monday, October 16, 2006 10:31 AM To: mb12 valtrex Subject: Valtrex, another update after 7 months...OMG!! Hello everyone, I hope everyone is doing well. I last posted an update when Dylan hit the 200 day mark and showed amazing gains from valtrex. It started to appear that he was no longer making gains, and his yeast was out of control. So, we stopped to see how we would do off of valtrex and to also get his yeast back under control. This is the amazing part of being off valtrex, and it was very unexpected to us..... He maintained all cognitive gains he made during those 6 months, but he spiraled down in every other sense. His sensory was so out of control it was as if he had no say in what his body was doing, exactly as he was before valtrex. He no longer slept, in fact, with each passing week he slept less and less, getting to the point where the whole house had to function on 5 hours of sleep. His appetite reminded me of my brother when he was a teenager. My 8 year old son was eating non-stop, even at school. He was constant motion, easily frustrated, aggressive and non-compliant and pretty much had me in tears on a daily basis, not to mention the constant phone calls and emails from school (something I thought was long behind us). All of that in one month. One month off of valtrex was the worst month we have been through since before even starting biomed on him years ago. His sister even had to start locking herself in her room just so she could find some peace and not be the " wrestle-buddy " . We now are back on valtrex....day 4 in fact. On day 1 school asked, what is going on? This is a different kid? Day 2 and 3 (Sat/Sun) were the most peaceful days I have had, and I even SLEPT this weekend!!!!! He is soooo calm, relaxed, and in control of his body and motion. Aware of what he wants and needs and can calmly request for his wants/needs. There have been no tantrums, no wrestling, no crying and no need for constant motion. He even sat down and watched a 90 minute movie!!!! PEACE!! He was in pain before, while off of valtrex. School called a meeting to ask me if I knew what his pain could be because he was in obvious agony. Today I dropped him off and he was ready to start his day!! So far we are seeing physical signs, too, that he still needs valtrex. Last time we started the first thing to happen was the chapped lips and dry cheeks, he has that again. Now the question....how much longer do we have to go....the first 6 months aided his cognitive, now it seems we are hitting the sensory, that the valtrex is actually helping with his SID, I find that so fascinating! Good luck to us all, Blessings, Colleen Mom to Dylan 8.5 non-verbal, ASD, SID, OCD Valtrex 6 months and counting
Guest guest
Colleen- What did you do to get his yeast back under control. We had to stop valtrex because he suddenly began completely our of control tantrums. We are not sure if they are caused by yeast or something else. Now that he has been off valtrex for a week I am already seeing his behavior regress. Any input you have would be a great help. Molly > > Hello everyone, > > I hope everyone is doing well. Guest guest
Hi ! That is an interesting thought ~ about the metals in the brain, I do wonder if the valtrex has helped pull them and we just need to be patient while the rest of the body clears???? I wonder why when we go off valtrex our kids are unable to sleep? It was such a weird month, I am still trying to figure it all out. He was so sensory that his body seemed like it was in constant pain from its own nervous energy/overload, like little electric shocks constantly going through him. I hope you are able to sleep tonight, it is so rough when we are running around exhausted and our kids are full of energy! Colleen > > Colleen, > > I always look forward to your updates!! Guest guest
Hi Molly, We just gave him yeast fighters from the HFS, Aloe Juice, Yeast Defense, Candida Clear, ParaGuard ~ anything with caprylic acid, pau d' arco, black walnut, oregano, GSE. A good probiotic too, like Primal Defense as well as a very good enzyme with meals and on an empty stomach, I use Q Zyme (which is from Garden of Life same as the Primal Defense). Dylan was also on Sacc B for 2 weeks. Colleen > > Colleen- > What did you do to get his yeast back under control. Guest guest
Hi Sam's Mom! I am not sure if the chapped lips is a sign of a responder, but the fact that the exact same reaction happened within the first days both times we started, well I think that it is NOW a sign ; ) That is so terrific that he told you, " move back " !!! Only us parents could find the blessing in sarcasm! LOL! Hang in there, it takes time, Dylan's cognitive gains were obvious after 2 months and even moreso after 4. Good luck and keep us posted, I may not post often but I read the posts daily and look forward to hearing your updates!! Guest guest
We also had the dry, chapped lips. It happened about 2 months into the Valtrex. I did not know it was related. -----Original Message-----From: mb12 valtrex [mailto:mb12 valtrex ] On Behalf Of samsmom032003 I noticed in your update that your son has chapped lips as a result of being on Valtrex, is that a good sign?
