Guest guest
Greetings, I have read with interest most of the postings for the past couple of months; the spirit of help and cooperation within this group is impressive. I am a general internist currently in a university-owned practice, now considering starting a solo practice. I've scheduled a meeting with an accountant next month to determine whether it is feasible given my current financial situation. I would appreciate assistance in putting together a " shopping list " of start-up supplies and costs (furniture, office supplies, exam room supplies, computer hardware, printers, copier, fax machines, malpractice/health/dental insurance, and anything that is essential to begin a solo practice). Any advice on where to look for good deals on these would also be appreciated. Happy Holidays. Whelan, MD.
Guest guest
You need to read back thru all the old emails in the group. You will soon find a flavor for what you realy need. It is not much. Just your skill as a physician , a decent location, and to keep it simple. Many communities have practices closing and you can find equipment at about any large hospital system that is in the process of consolidating and getting out of the doctor business. We were able to buy exam tables that were quite nice for 250. We spent about 15000 fully outfitting a 5 room practice that has been seeing 70 patients a day at times. We share xray and pay a local orthopedic group for exams about 17. We use an outside lab and are able to get about anything we want for a fraction of what we were having to pay our reported discounted hospital lab. Keep it simple and do your best to include many of Gordons ideas into your plan. Same day access does work. It is not just for FP's.
