In the morning I do cough out some light yellow phylem but that is about it... for the day...if I do cough something later on it will be whitish or clear...but I feel really out of energy and tired...I guess it is because of my asthma...I try hard not to go out and when i do i cover my mouth to avoid the direct cold air into my lungs....Any advice...experience ...would be appreciated. .Thanks for your time and God Bless.~m
Guest guest
Hi Miriam, Asthma can definitely cause phlegm production. However, when I am coughing and producing phlegm it does not generally have an odor. In fact the only time I have ever noticed an odor was with a bacterial infection which requires antibiotics. It is more than likely that the antibiotics killed enough of the bacteria for you to start feeling better, but didn't completely kill all of it. If it was me I would definitely go back to my doctor. You need to collect a sputum sample and take it to him or cough while at his office and let him collect it. Then the sample needs to be tested for bacteria and yeast. They do this with me for every and I mean every chest cold. Asthma and chest colds (including bronchitis and pneumonia) can create a very nasty cycle where they feed on each other and each makes the other worse. It is possible that you may need to spend a couple of days on IV antibiotics and steroids to really get over this (I know that is not what you want to hear.). Please keep us posted. Hope you feel so much better soon!
