I had a terrifying episode last week with my mom taking too much

insulin when she read her meter upside down and panicked. she read

521 when it was actually 152. She took two booster shots and her

blood sugar bottomed out. Well, me and my dad spent the next two

hours keeping her alive. Literally. The very next day. The NEXT day

I had a flare-up. It wasn't as bad as last time but on this one I

had a high fever and headache for three days. Once again the burning

of the nipples.. what's up with that???? This flare-up was clearly

different than those from the past.

Dear ,

Thank God you and your Dad were able to pull your Mom through! I think

you bring up several important issues. The first is that those glucose

meters should have a red line under the number so it is never read

incorrectly by holding it upside down. A misreading could be fatal.

The flare up you had sounds like it was directly due to the immense

stress you were under. I have had flare ups the day after a stressful

incident-and certainly a life and death situation is as stressful as

they get.

I have found that if I have recently had a flare up, a subsequent one

is not as bad too. I take that to mean the body is better able to

fight it off from winning the last recent battle. I know that isn't a

very scientific explanation, but it sort of makes sense.

As far as the nipple pain, I haven't a clue what that is. I have not

read about it, but I will do some research and try to find a reason

for it.

I hope you can relax and are feeling better.

Love,
