,

I found out that the diet sodas I started drinking about two years

ago to contain aspartame. I researched aspartame and was quite

shocked. I will stop drinking them and see what happens. I don't

think anything else I take or consume contains aspartame. I really

don't know what all products might contain it. Thanks for informing

me about aspartame. It never entered my mind.

Thanks,

Robin

Hi! I am currently being treated in the senario you presented. I

currently have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism, but a normal TSH

(barely) and high antibodies. I also have a moderately enlarged goiter.

My Dr. is wonderful...she has been treating my symptoms and not let the

tests alone dictate her treament. If your Dr. won't be proactive, I

suggest you find another one...I was so thankful the day I found this

doctor and she started me on medication (Synthroid.) It's only been a

few months, but I already am feeling better.

Good luck!

Sincerely,

I developed intracranial hypertension (too much spinal fluid in

head...with associated vision problems) from aspartame...along with a

long list of other aspartame related symptoms. I was in a major

aspartame fog that I wasn't even aware was there until i quit it.

you do know memory issues, vision issues, headaches, neuropathy

issues, etc. are all associated with aspartame?

I was amazed that within 24 hours, my eye pressure had lessened and

the trigeminal neuralgia had eased. Vison improved within the first

week. HAve you seen the little flashes of light that can happen with

aspartame?

Dr. , who wrote the book on Aspartame disease...says that

hypos are very much affected by aspartame - and that it does

interfere with thyroid meds. I think you may be amazed at what giving

up aspartame will fix! I was!

Never entered my mind either - because i didn't even think about the

mint lozenges i was using daily having aspartame. But when i ran

across my health probem (intracranial hypertension with atypical

facial pain) being associated with aspartame - i thought of the

lozenges and checked the ingredients...and yep, contained aspartame.

I also started researching and was STUNNED.

Oh - I also had pulmonary hypertension type stuff from it...so short

of breath...and that fixed itself the first week off of aspartame

too. And digestive issues are very much aspartame related - again,

that fixed in the first week.

I have used the word " miracle " many times in describing how stopping

aspartame affected me.

The keloid is probably related to the low iodine status many of us

probably have...dr. derry says this:

It is my belief a water solution of iodine (like Lugol's) is an

important therapeutic agent for skin. Because of its effectiveness

and the results, perhaps many skin diseases are related to local

tissue areas of relative iodine deficiency. Perhaps the most graphic

lesions are the " keloid " (worm) incision scars formed after surgical

procedures. If the iodine intake and tissue levels are adequate, such

as in Japan, keloid formation doesn't happen

painting the keloid area with iodine (Lugol's), over time, may be

helpful...just google " iodine keloid " for more info on this.

Thanks Cindi. All this information is very interesting. Other than

my diet sodas, I looked at the ingredients in other things that I use

daily. I take a sugar-free fiber supplement daily, and guess what.

It contains aspartame. I always buy sugar free gum too. I bet it

has aspartame. Why don't doctors say anything about this being a

possible problem? I am going to try to stop using the aspartame

products and see what happens.

Yea, i started to tell ya to look around.

I was quite a sight running around my house checking everything for

aspartame. :-)

Doctors don't say anything because it's FDA approved...although the

history of it getting approved is rather suspect. Like everything

else I guess, follow the money....

And of course mainstream medicine would probably never ever mention

it...although i have heard stories of some alternative docs

mentioning it to their patients.

Dr. (an endo) has many articles on Aspartame and a couple of

books...a comprehensive article here:

http://www.wnho.net/fdaapprovedepidemic.htm

seriously, I think you will see an improvement in many areas just

giving up aspartame...and btw, it can cause hypothyroidism. In my

own case, I think it worsened my already moderate/serious undiagnosed

hashi's/hypo to severe. I was diagnosed within 6 months of starting

the aspartame-laced logenzes.

btw, another artifical sweetener to watch out for is Acesulfame

potassium...also known as acesulfame-K, potassium acesulfame, ace-K and

ACK. Has been sold under the names Sunett, Sweet One, Swiss Sweet and

Sweet and safe.

while you're detoxing, drink lots of water. B complex vitamins and

Vitamin C supplements would be good!
