Guest guest
Atuallt I think anything like that depends on the person who does it. Whenever I had to have a blood sample taken at the doctors in Scotland, it often bruised far worse than going to the blood donors - far more blood being taken - in England. Guest guest
I kind of agree...I have had many flu shots in my life....one time in particular was about 5 years ago...I went to a grocery store with a flu clinic, and the lady who gave me the shot jabbed it into my arm up high...I have skinny arms, and she hit my bone with the needle. I was ok, but it bruised the bone and it was very sore. She aimed to high up my arm. I will never go to the so called clinics again because of that...I go to the doctors' office now. I have not gotten a flu shot the last couple of years because of the shortages here. This year I hear they have plenty. Any shot I get in my arms are sore in a couple of days...event the tetnus shot I got. The muscle gets sore. A Hill wrote: Atuallt I think anything like that depends on the person who does it. Guest guest
sometimes it was a matter of convenience. I am not one to go to the doctor a lot...refill my scripts, and now and then for a spider bite LOL! So, I would be shopping, and there would be a flu shot for me. It did cost, but it again was convenience. Convenience, cost me a shot, and then get someone who does not know how to give a shot on top of that....I cannot say I will never do that again, but I am thinking my appointment in two weeks to get my years scripts renewed is a good time to ask them for a flu and the pneumonia shot. It has been 12 years since I had my last and only pneumonia shot. I think my tetnus shot is still good, but hey...may also ask about that one too. Might as well go for it all LOL! Guest guest
Well I needed to go in for an asthma review anyway, so they have justbooked it in for the same time. PLus, my doctors is less than 10 min walk from my house.Yes I might have to wait longer (the nurse was on holiday, so couldn't get straight in, then as it's a 1/2 hour slot, and I have to have an appointment after 4pm, I had to wait another week on top of that), but it saves me £12 - can get a few CDs / DVDs / books for that! Guest guest
Because of the severity of her asthma right? Guest guest
They won't let me have it or the flu shot either. They say my immunity is too compromised. Has anyone else been told that? Guest guest
That's very odd, Tyler has a very compromised immune system and they push for him to get the shot every year. Oh get this, The youngest dr's office said NO on his flu shot, I got ticked so I called myself and told them THEY WOULD give him a flue shot and why, I was a severe asthmatic, and he lived in a home with a big brother who has an ileostomy with ONLY 2 feet of intestine left, OMG they changed their tune real quick he got in 3 hours later and got his shot. They now have the chart high lighted that is to be a priority due to Mother and brothers health. Terry Head Coach to the Chaney Bull Dogs I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. Guest guest
my last pneumonia shot was 12 years ago...I was thinking that from what you wrote previously that I really needed to get mine...I was really outdated. What they told me then was it was good for 10 years. Either way, I am due for one, and I will ask how long they are good for, and I will let y'all know what this doctor tells me LOL!! I see a different doctor every year! Sometimes it is a nurse practitioner who checks my asthma and does my scripts...that is what is happening in my little world. Not much choice where I live. I just go and hope for the best. Generally they ask me if my meds are doing ok, and they want to keep me on the same regimen....dunno. Just gotta hope for the best. I think it is cute how we who get lots of inhalers stash them in the places that we think we might need them, because it has happened too many times in those places...we are alike, and think alike...oh boy! I am not one to go to the doctor a lot...refill my scripts, and now and then for a spider bite LOL!So, I would be shopping, and there would be a flu shot for me. Might as well go for it all LOL!Cindi A Hill wrote: A few supermarket pharmacies here do flu jabs too. I got the flu and pneumonia shot one in each arm, could have been too why I had a funky head ache on Wednesday who knows Terry Head Coach to the Chaney Bull Dogs I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I don't remember this happening last year - does it have anything to do with the technique of the person giving the shot? Thank you, Alana ------------ --------- --------- ------
Guest guest
Hi Terry, Thanks for your reply - I was wondering about the technique because I do not remember this happening last year, and it was a different nurse that gave the shot. I am a little annoyed about this issue - why can't all the nurses be taught how to administer the shot properly? I got the shot at my Primary's office, and I don't want to offend the nurse who gave me the shot - she was super nice - but what am I supposed to do next year, if I get her again? It's a bad situation. I'm thinking next year, I will go to my asthma Doctor for the shot - maybe I will have better luck there. My GI Doctor used to have them, but they don't do it anymore. About the headache - I got a headache right after the shot, but I thought it was a coincidence, because how can the shot even get into the system that fast? Guest guest
Hi , That is interesting - I thought they would be really good at it, since they are doing it all day, you know? Alana I will never go to the so called clinics again because of that...I go to the doctors' office now.
Guest guest
They just want to give you the shot and get out of there, IN all honesty, besides to be honest, I'd never get my shot anywhere else except for my dr's office, I've hear of places where the flu shots have been IV solution NOT the actual shot so I'm not always trusting of those outside of my dr's office Terry Head Coach to the Chaney Bull Dogs I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. Guest guest
Alana, My flu shot arm was actually sore for 3 days! And it always is for me. My pneumonia shot arm was sore for 3 days, then sore just to the touch for 3 days, then hurt only in my elbow and shoulder joint for 2 days. I had never gotten this shot before so I was surprised at being sore for so long. And both were given by my regular dr. > > > > > > > If you got a flu shot > > > > Did anybody get a flu shot, and your arm is sore 2 days after getting > it? > > I don't remember this happening last year - > > does it have anything to do with the technique of the person giving > the shot? > > > > > Thank you, > > Alana >
Guest guest
My dr. also said the pneumonia shot was good for about 10 years. I think they " officially " say 5-10 because they don't really know! > >>> > >>> From: Terry <soccer.momverizon (DOT) net> > >>> Subject: RE: If you got a flu shot > >>> To: asthmayahoogroups (DOT) com > >>> Date: Sunday, 2 November, 2008, 6:25 PM > >>> > >>> I got mine Tuesday and wasn't sore or anything, I think it has a lot to do > >>> with the technique that person uses. Guest guest
Hi Autumn, Thanks for your reply - I am really starting to wonder about this, a few minutes ago I felt something at the shot site - like a stinging or something - I don't know - it seems to be gone now. Is this EVER going to go away??? Alana > > My arm was sore for two days also >
Guest guest
I took allergy shots for 15 years and different people gave me shots during all those years. One of the things that they taught me was that if I am not relaxed it will hurt more. Also, vaccines tend to go into the muscle vs just under the skin like an allergy shot does so they are more likely to hurt the next day. It depends on the type of shot they are giving where it goes and how much it will hurt...but it also depends on the person recieving the shot just as much as who is giving it. I have to watch when they are giving me a shot...I can actually relax when I see it coming. Dont ask me why I am this way...I just am. Ive never had a flu shot and probably never will. Same for the pneumonia vaccine. My husband just had the flu mist vaccine and he was physically ill for 2 days after he took that. He has no choice in the matter though, the military says he has to take it. My mindset is that as long as I dont let my health slip I am able to steer clear of the flu & bronchitis. I am now past the time of year where I normally get bronchitis on an annual basis so I think I should be good...at least until we move to Ga at the end of the month. I have only had the flu once in my life, 22 years ago...and I got that when I was already in a very weakened immune state from having bronchitis. Our school was closed down that year for a particularly bad flu outbreak...45% of our students and teachers got sick with it that year. If it makes anyone feel better though, I did start taking 1000mg of Vit C a few weeks ago. Ann McCain or Obama? Stay up to date on the latest from the campaign trail with AOL News.
