Guest guest
Ah, Shirley, I enjoy your laughs! :-) I've been here since early last year (I think) and this place is really talking now that we have so many folks! But WHERE did you get this info that LBD is 50/50 inheritable? I've never heard anything like that before. In fact, that it is probably more fluky than inherited. Cheryl (For the person asking, I'm in Mobile, AL, on the Gulf coast, from where you have to drive north to get to the Deep South.)
Guest guest
Hi everyone, How long has everyone been in this group? I've been here about 3 wks now. Also since this disease is said to have a 50/50 chance of being hereditary does anyone think they may be a target for this. I wouldn't be surprised if I get it someday but am really going to try to stay fit, active, and healthy and use my mind as much as I can. And of course start drinking more. May as well play it safe. (just joking. kind of). Guest guest
Cheryl- I had also just read how children of LBD patients have a 50 percent chance of inheriting gene to this disease. I typed in Lewy Body Disease on a search screen.....scrolled until I found a website named http://dementia.ion.ucl.ac.uk/candid/factshees/facts4.htm Fact Sheet Number 4 - Lewy Body Dementia. It states under a heading " WHO CAN GET LEWY BODY DEMENTIA? " that, " Any body can develop Lewy body dementia. Post mortem studies examining the brains of people with dementia suggest that it is relatively common. However, because there are still questions about the exact nature of LBD prevalence figures do vary. It appears to affect men and women alike. As yet risk factors for developing the disease have not been identified. Rare 'familial' cases of Lewy body disease have been described. In these families it is ingerited as an 'autosomal dominant' disease which means that if a person carries the gene, he/she will eventually develop the disease. Their children have a 50% chance of inheriting the ilness. This has really bothered me since I read this and printed it off on Saturday Jan. 26th. I hope this helps. Guest guest
cheryl, here is one of the websites I got this information, I know I have read it in another one too. Maybe I read it wrong because now I see that it says it is rare " familial " http://dementia.ion.ucl.ac.uk/candid/factsheets/facts4.htm As yet risk factors for developing the disease have not been identified. Rare 'familial' cases of Lewy body disease have been described. In these families it is inherited as an 'autosomal dominant' disease which means that if a person carries the gene, he/she will eventually develop the disease. Guest guest
I think you need to re-read it. Specifically the line stating: " Rare 'familial' cases of Lewy body disease have been described. " meaning that it is a rare occurance to find the disease passed down amoung family members. But, just to be safe, everyone should grab all the fun & joy whilst they can. Guest guest
Thanks, Sandie. Most interesting. And disturbing. I hadn't seen this info and really appreciate you sharing it. No wonder more children of LBD patients seem to be demonstrating a heightened state of worry about being victimized as patients, too. Let's hope a prevention can be found soon. Guest guest
Shirley--I've been here off and on for about a year. I do have fears that I could end up with the same problem except that I don't have the stresses that my mother lived with for the last decade because my sister was living with her and eating her heart out. In fact my mother was always looking for someone to take care of all her life. I was more the kind of person who wasn't capable of making commitments until I got my first cat. And my first two cats were so low maintenance that they hardly count as a commitment--they gave more than they took. Lately I've become very clear that my stress levels have more to do with my blood sugars being up or down than what I eat. Probably stress has a lot to do with LBD too. I'm going to try to stay calmer. I'm looking for a way to squeeze in some meditation time and I could probably drink an oz or two of wine in the evening without getting heartburn from it. I get on the treadmill every morning for a half hour. I am trying to take care of myself. > > > > > Hi all, > > > Remember when we got one or two postings a day? Guest guest
Yes, yes--Life is uncertain so eat dessert first. Our chances of being in a serious accident are far, far greater.........not that I wish to raise anyone's anxiety level. Mai-Liis in CA. Guest guest
Please emphasize the word " rare " in describing the form of LBD that is inheritable. The probability is that your LO does NOT have that form! Guest guest
I expect everybody is quite busy w the flu outbreak. It sounds like your system w logician is working quite well. How does the billing work for you? What are the weak points for logician? I am currently using the alteer system and have used soapware. Soapware had alot of the stuff you could build into it for the various recommendations that would pop up. Alteer makes it harder, you have to build a flow sheet that includes the various recommendations, and just pull it up, you can readily see what was done and when then. Guest guest
Greetings, Still here Just extremely busy working full time and trying to get all the paperwork together for opening in January. Update for those interested: The Spencer Township voted to rezone the apartment to allow a medical business to operate. Conditions placed on the business: One physician, One assistant, no more than an average of 3 patients an hour(due to parking contraints, I have 4 spaces) The rezoning conditions will be reviewed on a yearly basis. Hospital credentialing is going well. Insurance applications are proceeding quickly. Biggest problem is Medical Malpractice Insurance, we are in the midst of a crises here in Ohio. Many physicians, including my own personal physician, are having their MedMal premiums going through the roof. My physician went from 8k last year to 16k this year, to 60k for next year. (the explanation for him is that in 25 years he has had two lawsuits, neither of which went to court or settlement). There are 5 companies in Ohio that do the MedMal, two have already rejected my applications (although I have a clean record for the totality of my career, 10 years), we are appealing one of them with the company we would prefer using, as the other three companies are in danger of closing in Ohio. There is also a potential policy through the Ohio Hospital Association, where the hospital pays a matching premium in addition to the physician's premium. The local hospital CEO is looking into this and has stated that if needed he would find the necessary funds. (however, due to the lack of cooperation from his governing hospital corporation, I am unsure that this would happen) On another note, my wife who is handling most of the business aspects of the practice (she is a very successful self-made businesswoman, she runs two successful companies from home) has suggested a listserver group dedicated to the business aspects of cutting edge practices, including support for other spouses that are the business managers. If there is felt to be a need for this, we would be happy to open it and moderate it. Tim Just wondering Hello Everyone: After a steady stream of postings I suddenly have not seen any in the last week. Am I missing postings?
