I have been living with a Syrinx which runs from C2 to C7 itwas noticed on

my first MRI I had which was in 2000 I've had 3 MRI's sincewhich show it is

still there and still seen from C2 to C7.It says the Inferior portion of the

Cervical Syrinx is occluded.

i also have a Tonsillar Herniation along with a Basilar Invagination and the

dens appear to cause a mass effect and flatten the Medulla of the Brain Stem.

I have never had a Cine MRI I don't think there are any around me I live in

Southern Indiana I have been to Indiana U. Medical Center they have said they

would not do any surgery I am on Medicade and I am limited where I can go.

My NS who did my Surgery in 1974 said he thought the Syrinx was present

since having my surgery but there was no way of knowing because there were no

MRI's in the 1970's.

Would a Cine MRI be helpful ? and does anyone know if there are any around

my area.Probably would have to be in Indiana.

that side.

This is upsetting to say the least. I just started a job that I love (as a Neuro

ICU nurse, thanks to my initial experiences), getting my life in order and all

of that, and now this. I've contacted Dr Oro, TCI and a local doctor to try and

see what should or needs to be done next. My legs, back, and head are killing me

at this point. My arms are starting to ache as well. Hopefully I can get back to

feeling good most of the time. That is all I ask for.

Chiari Surgery 1974 (age 17) : Suboccipital Craniectomy :Laminectomy of C1 and

C2 : Removal of Scarred Cerebellar Tonsils wide Graft of area done with

Paraspinous Muscle Tissue.It was Also assumed I had a Syrinx but of course there

were no MRI's then so the status of the spinal cord was unknown.My Chiari was

found with a test called a " Pneumoencephalogram " it was a rough test (Not done

much anymore)

I do think this Surgery was very successful and Definately Neccessary
