Guest guest
I was just reading about this supplement on Dr. Weil yesterday... it is in fact recommended for autoimmune disorders: http://www.drweil.com/u/Article/A112/ Haven't tried it yet but have also been thinking about it.. I've also had a problem with sore breasts before my menstrual cycle lately where I never had that before. It's also good for hair and nails, which I don't have a problem with but many hypoT folks here do. ~ > > To anyone who would know: Would taking EPO (Evening Primrose Oil) be OK > to take? or does it not good for someone with autoimmune thryoiditis? > Reason why I am asking is because I read that it can be helpful for > sore breasts. Guest guest
In my searches today I have found out that EPO is phytoestrogen but also not all phytoestrogens are bad and do not react negatively, some do. Flaxseed also contains phytoestrogens. I believe that the return of my sore breasts is because last month I bought just the Omega 3 and the complete with 3.6.9. 6 being GLA which is what is also in EPO. Here is a link to the article if you are interested. http://www.fibrocystic.com/phyto.htm Robin -- In Thyroiditis , " suuzin " <suuzin@y...> wrote: > > I was just reading about this supplement on Dr. Weil > yesterday... it is in fact recommended for autoimmune > disorders: > > http://www.drweil.com/u/Article/A112/ > > Haven't tried it yet but have also been thinking about it.. > I've also had a problem with sore breasts before my > menstrual cycle lately where I never had that before. Guest guest
I am pretty sure I saw him on the Today show this past month. If not him someone who looks alot like him. Katy Couric interviewed him a couple of days on his ideas of nutrition and vitamins. Guest guest
Hi Robin, EPO does not naturally have estrogenic properties, however, several manufacturers do combine EPO with phytoestrogens, this -then misleads consumers to believe that EPO contains phytoestrogens, labels should be carefully looked at. (Labels should always be looked at for these and other unwanted ingredients as well as buying quality brands.) EPO is beneficial for many reasons. I use it daily for my hair/nails and PMS benefit; it's also, used for rheumatoid arthritis, tender breasts, eczema, fatigue, and diabetic neuropathy. Currently, studies are being done on the effectiveness of it on lowering blood cholesterol levels, diminishing the risk of blood clots, treating hypertension, and brain/memory benefits. I'm highly sensitive to phytoestrogens, especially the Isoflavones. I have had no reaction from EPO. Lignans on the other hand have been found to have benefits; they are found in flaxseed, whole-grain rye bread, berries and some vegetables. If I don't know what an ingredient is or the label just says soy -I don't buy it.
