Guest guest
Same day appointments can and should work forever. Not having the capacity to offer same day appointments REGARDLESS OF 'URGENCY' is very expensive and will drag your practice down! Same day access is one of the critical aspects of office efficiency that allows you to run your practice on the cheap and still maintain a good life while serving patients very well. Even one second of your time discussing " is this urgent or routine? " is waste. There is absolutely NO benefit to us or to our patients in this work. The reason so many of our colleagues do this work is because they have bought into the myth of insatiable demand. Demand is something that must be managed. If you manage it, it is not insatiable. If you manage it, you can maintain the ability to offer same day appointments to ALL of your patients who call, and your work will be MUCH easier. Don't think of same day appointments as merely a means to get patients into the practice. While it will accomplish this admirably, you lose the biggest benefit (getting rid of all the uncompensated work around " triage " and " how sick are you, do you really need to come in today " ). This is not a nice little treat for patients, this is one of the cornerstones of your practice health.
