Jennie - Sorry that this has been dropped in your lap. So that I can better understand, can you tell me "acc?"

OT/Cerebal palsy??

I put this in my acc group but wanted to copy/paste here for anyone who has had this diagnoses with there child! Our son has been diagnosed with acc since 6mths, he is now 9yrs and to my surprise in a mailed overview letter from his recent neuro appointment it said he has CP??? I called and said this was a mistake in his report, I have never been told this befor(I have been asked by many if he has this)! The office called and said it was write and that cp has many forms and this was based off his severe delays and muscles stimming from his c-acc!! I had always thought the cp was caused from brain damage at birth?? Has anyone had this added diagnoses to the acc and what was you told about it!! Im just kinda shook over this thinking my son just doesnt need another issue! He just got out of the hospital for over a week due to gastro issues and now we gotta go back!! Maybe im just nieve to this condition and fear/lack of knowledge makes it more upsetting to me! Is this always a birth issue or can this happen later?Any input would be great! Jennie<><

My brother has Cerebal Palsy...he is 33. He was a twin and it was believed that

he received inadequate oxygen during delivery. I'm pretty certain that almost

all case of CP happen during pregnancy, or shortly thereafter. So your son has

probably had this since birth or inutero........the sometimes use it as an

umbrella term to describe major milestones delays throughout life. It is

strange that at 9 they are telling you this. I hope I helped I'm sure you can

find a ton on line about it. Take care, L.

my daughter was diagnosed with a mild form of CP at 2 years of age--at first they gave us this weird diagnosis of Static Encephalopathy-which we were later told that's a name that doctors use interachangeably with CP. She is followed by a pediatric neuro and a developmental pediatrician. They do not know if happened after her premature birth (25 weeker micro preemie) or during an incident during her nissen fundoplication surgery when she coded on the table for about 4 minutes before she was revived. She has issues swallowing, gross motor delays and fine motor delays and overall cognitive developmental delays.

here is more info I found apparently other things can cause cp

Since cerebral palsy refers to a group of disorders, there is no exact known cause. Some major causes are asphyxia or hypoxia of brain, birth trauma or premature birth, genetic susceptibility, certain infections in the mother during and before birth, central nervous system infections, trauma, and consecutive hematomas. In most people with CP, the cause is unknown. After birth, the condition may be caused by toxins, physical brain injury, incidents involving hypoxia to the brain (such as drowning), and encephalitis or meningitis. Despite all of these causes, the cause of many individual cases of cerebral palsy is unknown.

Recent research has demonstrated that asphyxia is not the most important cause as it was once considered to be, though it still plays a role, probably accounting for about 10% of all cases. The research has shown that infections in the mother, even infections that are not easily detected, may triple the risk of the child developing the disorder.

Premature babies have a higher risk because their organs are not yet fully developed. This increases the risk of asphyxia and other injury to the brain, which in turn increases the incidence of cerebral palsy.

Jennie, I am really sorry to hear that. No one wants a suprise like that. I do know that you will figure it all out, you have that gift. I know this is probably inapropriate to say. I feel like I need to say it anyway...Have you considered speaking with an attorney to look over your sons medical condition and cause? Your medical bills and care must be quite big. My cousin has cp and he is a kind, loving and wonderful human being, I love him very much cp is very close to my heart. svSubject: Re: OT/Cerebal palsy??To: miralax Date: Monday, November 3, 2008, 8:09 PM

Hi Nattalie! Thank you for the positive encouragement! As some mentioned in my ACC group he is still the same, just a new added label! Apparently this diagnoses is due to his brain birth issue of "Agenesis of corpus callosum". Just kinda surprised after all these years to just get this label. On a positive note, it well be easier to get him a new wheelchair now(he is outgrowing his old one). As far as an attorney, beings this is due to his birth defect and not caused by brain damage, an attorney is out! We are in the middle of a vaccine case through the government, what a nightmare(vaccine compensation program). Most are thrown out, they have made it almost impossible to prove damage when it comes to vaccines. I have been told my son has to many medical issue's and going to be very difficult to prove. I am 200% he was injured, the symptoms started the very

night of his allergic reaction and have continued to this day almost 4yrs later, the GI being the most obvious. But we are the rare in that an attorney even took our case(only about 12 vac attorneys in the whole country), we have made it through 2 stages(hasnt been thrown out) and now have a hearing coming up around march(apparently we are going up against the government and human health services...uuugh). It is said that even at that stage only about 40% win! But we well see, not to hopeful beings the medical records lack proof on the doctors part. No doctor wants to admit vaccines harm children, they risk loosing there jobs if they do, infact some have lost them because of it! The CP label just caught me off gaurd, just as we got back from a weeks hospital stay and exhaustion! Looks like my son well be going back and apparently through a gastro surgeon this time for more testing! Im guessing an exploratory surgery, not sure yet, still waiting to here

from the gastro. Well I hope all is well with your children! Jennie<><

I hope your brother is doing well! Apparently this is diagnosed due to his birth defect. I have often wondered about my son during delivery and his heart stopped, but nothing has ever been mention with any of his mri's, so im presumming there was no brain damage. Yes is strange to me after all these years to just get this diagnoses. Thank you! Jennie<><
