Body Mass Index (BMI)Body mass index, or BMI, is a new term to most people. However, it is the measurement of choice for many physicians and researchers studying obesity. BMI uses a mathematical formula that takes into account both a person's height and weight. BMI equals a person's weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. (BMI=kg/m2).

BMI sort of assumes that you are not a bodybuilder, doesn't it?

If you are 6' and 184lbs it tells you that you are overweight and have an

increased chance of disease.

Yes, my BMI is 32, so unless you see me you would think I am obese. It is a good measure to see if you are at least within "normal" ranges of body weight. Some of us are not considered to be carrying normal body weights, even if it is mostly muscle and little fat.
