Guest guest
, so glad you're OK. What a nightmare down there. Thanks for the pics.. ouch, that neck looks painful. When you have a chance, it would be great to see *you* not just your neck! I borrowed " The Thyroid Sourcebook " from the library yesterday and ran across some info. about the parathyroid glands and surgery I wanted to make sure you knew. The book says that during a TT, the surgeon must be very careful not to touch or damage the parathyroid glands (it says if you think of your thyroid as an " H " shape, there are at least 4 parathyroid glands, one at each tip of the " H " ). ANyway, the book says as long as you have one functioning parathyroid gland, you're OK but if all 4 have been damaged, your blood calcium levels would drop. Book says " This would cause muscle spasms + contractions, seizures or convulsions, and cataracts. If the damage was temporary, you'd need to take calcium intravenously and orally. In the case of permanent damage, you may need to take calcium supplements and Vitamin D, which helps your body absorb calcium, for the rest of your life, and have your calcium levels checked frequently. " Is there a way to tell if your parathyroids were damaged?? Have you had your blood calcium levels checked? Was just wondering if this is why you need the calcium to feel OK. Oh, by the way, re: Vitamin D above, make sure you research how much to take before you decide to do that... I know too much of Vit. D is definitely not good for us. Take care!!! > Ok, I think it worked! > I've got one in there of my neck after my TT and the view down my > street yesterday morning.... > > -- > TT 1/30/
