Welcome ,

I'm sorry to hear about your dd..............This group has helped so many people and help educate everyone about Miralax. Are they going to be able to correct this bend down the road? Did they have her on antibiotics? Where did you hear the negative things about Miralax?

Hello All.

My name is and I recently found some very disturbing information on Miralax which led me to your group. I'm hoping that somewhere within the wisdom of this group I will be able to find an alternative for my daughter.

My daughter, Georgia (17 months), was born with many health concerns. Several have been resolved and some will be with her forever. About 6 months ago after many many months of battling doctors, I finally got a doctor to pinpoint a very sever problem - she has a bend in her colon. Before this diagnosis, the agony my daughter had to have a BM was painful for both of us. I was giving her suppositories to help her go because I was just at my wits end. When our gastroentrologist prescribed Miralax is truly was the miracle drug. She takes 1 to 1 1/2 tsp per day so that she can have at least one healthy BM a day.

Because we can't do anything to change her anatomy, she HAS TO take something. She doesn't have constipation, per se, she would if I didn't giver her the Miralax, it's just we have to make her stool soft enough so she can get it out. Given that this is a therapy that she will need for the rest of her life and the scary research I've done on Miralax, any suggestion toward a natural and safer alternative would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the welcome. As far as the bend in my daughter's colon, my understanding is that we're not going to be able to correct it.  I'm glad with this decision too.  She has other surgeries coming up and the colon issue, though semi-serious, is not high up on the list of more serious things that need to be taken care of.  As I said in my last post, she's doing so great on the Miralax.  Though the more research I do (on-line) on Miralax the more I'm freaked out.  Mostly because this is a therapy that she will need for the rest of her life and I'm very concerned about the long term effects it will have on her..  I really want to start her on something that will be natural and gentle on her system.  Even so, I'm absolutely terrified to take her off the Miralax.  I can not adequately express the pain she has experienced in the past to have a BM.  I really don't want to put her through that.  I'm so hoping that this group will have some information that I can look into and in the end, get my daughter off the Miralax. Thanks so much ~ Lin - Chido "I strive to reflect my unique light, through a timelessart form, to tell and understand my own story."Email mailto:linda@...Web site http://www.lindachido.comBlog site: http://www.chidogrossfamily.blogspot.com
