My Grandfather used to grow spuds (potatoes) in old car tyres. He'd start 2

tyres high, fill with dirt and add the seed potato. When the green leaves grew a

bit, he would add another tyre on top, top up the dirt around the leaves and

just keep going up and up with more tyres until the plant didn't grow any more.

Apparently it used to make lots and lots more potatoes than just in the ground.
