Guest guest
I love WHOLE oats in the morning. They make me feel so good throughout the day. Raisins or dried cranberries make it a perfect meal. What do you eat for breakfast??
Guest guest
Delia We are birds of a feather... whole oats are very satisfying . When I lived in Germany, I ate muesli at least twice a day though i tend to eat more fruit in warm weather. It's easy to make oatmeal and add seeds [i like flax a lot]. I use maple syrup sparingly since dryed cranberries or raisens are plenty sweet. When using vanilla rice milk I dont need any other sweets since rice is. Someone was asking about vegan snacks... there's plenty of ideas to be found on vegan and macrobiotic sites but I got ideas reading East-West Magazine in Vegetarian Times. A date stuffed with almond butter for instance is better than most candy though adding dark chocolate works too. One aspect of macrobiotics is to eat less processed food. I made my kids grain goodies using syrups like rice, barley malt, and blackstrap molassass but a carrot or piece of fruit is a nice choice. White sugar may be vegan but it doesnt bring you health. Processed sugars, oils, etc. are not great ways to get nurishment. I call myself " neo-macrobiotic " since I eat tomatoes but with a food processor, I would probably go with a carrot-beat puree since it's tasty and said to be better for you. Since I am currently alone, it's hard to be motivated to cook but it's easy to get a pot of rice going. My left over rice with seasoning, nutritional yeast, oats with unrefined oil is the basis of a satisfying burger. ds , " delia273 " <jane-bush@s...> wrote: > > I love WHOLE oats in the morning. Guest guest
: I guess I would consider myself "neo-macrobiotic" too --. Because i use tomatoes & garlic. Plus some herbs. I love ethnic foods: Mexican, Chinese, Indian, Italian. david* wrote: DeliaWe are birds of a feather... whole oats are very satisfying . Guest guest
Joan – Can I ask, how do you put that combination together? Mix it, eat them separately? Cheers, Carol From: Joan Kimball Sent: Wednesday, October 13, 2004 2:11 PM To: VeganMacrobiotics Subject: breakfast choices I like whole grain, with miso and Peanut Butter and blueberries. Guest guest
I enjoy dry fruit with grains though some don't think ya oughta mix 'em. Heck with them...lol. I have often felt " variety is the spice of life " and even when I make oatmeal or rice, it varies since the various grains [whole and steel cut that can be used. I had lots of flax in my oats [not mush] today. My father was always big on breakfast though his eggs, bacon, and white bread helped kill him Im sure. He was so obeise that he could not walk by age 60 and had two hip replacements before his heart gave out. I share his appreciation of cooking and quickly adapted to vegan cooking using the same flavors I grew up with. My breakfasts are humble as Reggies though I think miso is always great. However, I can do up a feast with tempeh bacon, tofu scramble, homefries, and seeded bread, muesli or waffles. Having an organic, homemade meal with some fresh fruit, fruit swtned jam, or juice is unbeatable and will cure a healthy appetite like mine. It all depends on what i feel like, the weather, and availability. The good thing for me is that i manage well with my personal choices without some fad diet [19yrs so far]. Find what works for you and something you can maintain over the long haul. :] david* , " Joan Kimball " <foxylady2@t...> wrote: > I put the miso and PB with the grain (barley or steel cut oats), mix it up, > and eat the blueberries separate. I have an awful time with what is ying or yang, so I don't know if this is a good combo or not. but I like the taste. > > Joan – > Can I ask, how do you put that combination together?
