The zinc doseage should be the childs weight plus an

additional 20 mgs. Have you tried zinc

monomethinonine. This kind of zinc is much better

absorbed. You can also buy safe chewy toys from

therapro.

Pica can also be a symptom of low iron. If you think it's an issue, do the bloodwork first because supplementing iron can be dangerous if there's no deficiency.

there are some people that know a lot more about this than I, but from my experience -maybe the T/D zinc isn't good enough for him and he needs the ingestible kind. Also my grandson did that a lot when he was on powdered calcium supplement-once I switched him to the liquid he stopped, but also he other supplements were on target. several months prior to this tx. My son mainly wants to eat dirt, rocks, and uncooked rice (they use this at his school for OT) - of course, he won't even touch it when it is cooked! Anyway, any suggestions would be great - are there any particular supplements that might help with this? He is already on zinc (cream from Kirkman's -1 scoop nightly). Also, one more question....my son will NOT leave his fingers out of his nose!!! He picks it constantly!! I know that some of this behavior is age related( he is 3), but he is truly over the top with it! Could this indicate a yeast problem ( we are already on Diflucan) or maybe bacteria? Thanks for the help!

My son has been on Valtex/diflucan 40 days now.  He has been mouthing a lot of things as well.  The nose thing justa started about 2 weeks ago.  He constantly has his fingers up there and is eating his "finds".  The last couple of days he even had nose bleeds.  Is this a common side effect?  It is really gross.NoraHas anyone had a problem with pica? Hi,

my son is 4yo and had horrible pica at the age of 2-3 it was

umberrable, he would eat even the lint from the laundry....he will

lick the floor, walls, I hated to take him outside to the yard because

all he did is dig until he got to the dirt and just start eating it

like candy....but in any case, we're so happy he is so over that pica,

now he gets grossed out even if we try like playing to give him

something he doesn't eat....I think it was a combination of things

what has helped him: folinic acid, P5P, DMG, enzymes, liquid zinc

(oral) and now he takes zinc picolinate 50mg, also MB12 shots, we saw

amazing changes on him....and super nuthera.....now we're chelating

and also will start valtrex soon, and in one year he has made great

progress....for the pica it's long gone...I believe zinc depletion in

our kids makes them develop this stuff....maybe consult with your DAN

doc trying oral zinc as opposed to transdermal, which can be the

problem, maybe he's not getting enough zinc.

My son needed zinc monomethionine in order to stop the PICA and help improve behavior. VeraNora Middleton wrote: My son has been on Valtex/diflucan 40 days now.
