Bless your heart!!! For going outside a good fleece scarf more than one is always good.

Hi AllI am new to this group and I have a question for all of you.My fiance has Asthma problem and talking to her I found that her Asthma triggers are sudden weather change and pollution. Right now she is residing in Delhi, India where current temperature variation is from 52 F in morning to 37 F in evening. She is having a tough time in Delhi as there is no centrally heated houses in Delhi and the pollution is to its height. Now, she is coming to meet me in January 2009. I myself live in Chicago, USA. The pollution here is very minimal compared to what it is in Delhi, India but I the weather here is on the other exxtreme. Since here I have a centrally heated house, temperature inside the house is 70 F but outside the house it drops to -12 F to -20 F. Yes, its in minus outside and I have a concern for her as this will be a drastic weather change for her as she moves from inside the house to outside the house.I have a concern about how shall I prepare myself and prepare her for it.I was reading online and found about using masks to make the breathing air warmer, but didn't find any convincing testimonials for it.I would really appreciate if someone who is living in such environment can give me his/her personal advice on it.Thanks and RegardsMayank Minglani

Hi Mayank,

I live in south central Alaska and can certainly understand cold weather. 35 below right now. When I am proactive, which is not as often as I should be, I use a scarf type of garment that is tube shaped and made of a soft, tight knit material. When I use it, the air I breathe is warmed a bit before it gets into my lungs. I find it very uncomfortable, though. Yesterday I did not use it and every time I left a building or got out of my car I had a coughing fit. I'd suggest a nice warm scarf wraped around her neck, nose and mouth as an easy fix. Keeping your house as clean as possible and free of smoke, dust and mold will be a big help as well.

I hope this helps.

Mike

Welcome to our group, Mayank. Any type of sudden climate change can

be very hard for asthmatics. Make sure that she sees her asthma

doctor before coming over and has a full stock of any meds that she

may need. It can be hard finding a good doctor that you like as well.

One of the best solutions that I can think of is also one of the

simplest. A thick scarf to cover her nose and mouth with any time she

goes outside into the cold air. I wish I had some better suggestions

for you. Good luck. Keep us posted and congratulations!
