Weird question about volcano

I live within 75 miles of at least 3 large and active volcanos. One,

Mt. Redoubt, was put on a higher alert for a possible/probable

eruption. first, I am in little to no danger of lava as the Cook Inlet

offers a 20 mile wide buffer. I am curious about ash fall. My wife is

out buying surgical masks now. Is there anything else you can think

of to keep ash away? We are considering plastic on the windows.

Certainly staying indoors during the event is a must. I've been

through other ash falls but my asthma was not such an issue then. Just

curious.
