Hi ,

A hot nodule is defined as a nodular region of the thyroid gland that

takes up large amounts of radioactive iodine relative to the rest of

the thyroid gland, hence it is visualized as a " hot spot " on the

thyroid scan. The majority of hot nodules function autonomously, and

have lost their normal ability to be regulated by TSH. Accordingly,

they often produce excess amounts of thyroid hormone, and eventually

result in the development of hyperthyroidism. In mild cases, the hot

nodule may not be producing sufficient amounts of thyroid hormone to

suppress TSH production and secretion from the pituitary, hence the

TSH may be normal or towards the lower end of the normal range. As

the nodule enlarges, becomes more metabolically active and produces

increasing amounts of thyroid hormone, the TSH will become gradually

lower, and if hyperthyroidism ensues, the TSH will be suppressed.

read the rest at:

http://www.mythyroid.com/hotnodule.html

Also:

http://www.tsh.org/askthedoctor/nodules.html

The thyroid cancer site says:

A thyroid nodule that takes up an excessive amount of tracer on a

thyroid scan will produce a dark spot when a picture is generated. If

the nodule is overactive, the excess thyroid hormone that it produces

may suppress the function of the rest of the thyroid gland, impairing

the uptake of tracer in normal tissue. This produces a picture of the

thyroid nodule as a dark spot against a very light background,

marking it as a hot nodule. Hot nodules are almost always benign.

While they do not have to be evaluated as possible cancer, they do

need to be evaluated for possible overactivity. A hot nodule that is

overactive to the point where it produces excess thyroid hormone is

called a toxic adenoma.

Welcome catd264h. I think you will find a wealth of knowledge on this

group and a terrific support system. I was just talking to my doctor

yesterday about this. I have had on again off again sinus drainage

this whole winter (more on than off) now with nose bleeds every

morning, and I am trying to prevent infection as it's only a matter of

time. His recommendation was a sinus rinse called " NeilMed Sinus

Rinse " you want the kit that contains the blue isotonic packets. I

used it last night and it was surprisingly soothing. I was not

expecting that. The instructions made me gag, but I thought ok I'll

do it once! This morning I still a little stuff in my head but only a

tiny bit of blood. So, it does seem to do some good. He told me if I

do it every night it will most likely stop the drainage that is being

caused from the dry winter air drying out my sinuses. Even though we

run humidifiers and I have a bubbler hooked up to my oxygen

concentrator at night. I know a lot of people use the " Neti Pot " , and

Dr. Beebe said this does better at getting thick mucus and gets

further into the sinus cavity. It was $11.95 at my local drugstore

(and I use one of those small privately owned places). On the back of

this brochure it is listed at a whole bunch of places. Walgreens,

CVS, , Eckerd, Kroger, Wegmans, and many more. So you should be

able to find it at pretty much any major drugstore. Also, they have a

website http://www.neilmed.com and toll-free number .

Hope this helps.

Yes I'm from Texas we just had 60mph winds last night here. Not one

of our better days. I did go buy a Neti Pot and I'm going to try

it. If it will work I'll sure give it a try.

best I have found at minimizing an infection is regular flushing

with a saline solution.  you can go to a local pharmacy and buy a

(fairly expensive) kit to do the job or make your own solution at

home.  I used one of those blue suction bulbs from the baby

department and would use it to irrigate with.  I warmed it slightly

as the cold water would sometimes hurt.  I'd flush 1-2x per day.

You should be able to find a recipe on line.  Best wishes.

GOOD FOR YOU, let us know how you made out with it, it might take a day or

two for you to really notice a difference, If you've been outside during

high pollen count days, you want to use that asap to clear out the pollen

it's great for when your congested too.

Low-dose naltrexone! Along with a gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar free

diet. These have done wonders for me and many others.

Welcome, right now Cymbalta is my drug of choice, since I also have major

depression and it can do double duty, plus it promotes weight loss rather than

gain, lol.

I still have pain, but my physiatrist said she could feel the difference in my

muscles. Wish I could feel it more.
