Guest guest
Nola, I'm glad you are interviewing so much. That is wonderful news. You sent them a thank you????? Don't you have that backwards? They should send YOU the thank you for you being there and giving them your time. ) Try but don't try SO hard my friend...........! Trust in the " unlimited' supply of your SOURCE. ) Sure will pray....... Hugs, Susie Susie, I have been busy interviewing all week. I have another interview today. I have heard nothing back. I sent out thank you notes to all and on Wednesday the one job was suppose to have made a decision and be pulling in people for second interviews. However, when I spoke with him on Wednesday he said he hadn't made a decision as of yet. This is where it gets bad because my positions take second and third interviews and there isn't that much time left for all of that. Nevertheless, I keep plugging along. As I said, I have another one this morning so I will see what that brings. This is the one that my drive time would be an hour and a half one way each morning. Wow! But if it all works out I will just move into that area then. (wherever I get a job I will do this) Thanks for asking, say some prayers for me. Lots of hugs and Love.....Nola
Guest guest
Thanks Susie, Basically I have been sending out resumes for a very long time and lots of them besides. Now they are just finally getting around to calling people and thats when the interviewing ends up back to back. I am so used to juggling all of this its nuts LOL I have been doing this for sometime. I am also searching for transcription jobs on the internet again. I have done this type of work off and on for about eight years, although editing skills are bad so that hinders me from actually picking up jobs at some places ya know. I have put it all in the hands of my higher power, it seems I have done all I could. Guest guest
Dale, You are the sweetest and kindest! I am definitely going to look more into this. I live about a half hour from the downtown area. Do you think I should send out a formal letter to these law firms? I have letters as I work as an independent contractor most times. I guess I fear that I won't word them correctly sometimes though. However, I am game for anything and any type of work right now. My dreams are to work in transcription from home and finish college for my BA in Information Technology, this will allow me to work up to any age doing web design and such. I know a lot about computers and from this experience that is happening now with jobs and my age, I feel this would be very beneficial for me in the future. We always need to keep our thinking caps on, don't we? If you have any other suggestions, feel free to e-mail me directly at alonenterprises@... . I will be working on my own website for my business that I have this weekend. Hopefully I can make some money from that. I sell many things, gifts, collectibles, leather goods, kitchenware, hunting items and so on. So I am excited to get that up and running. Hopefully it will do something for me until I can get work on a regular basis and become more stable. So feel free to email me whenever you think of something <smile> Dale....thanks a bunch for all of your love and support. I really appreciate it all. Gosh, I love you guys! Lots of hugs and love....Nola " When my life feels overwhelming, I remember that this is for now, not forever " From: AffirmationstoDe-Stress Date: Friday, May 02, 2003 10:37:43 AM To: AffirmationstoDe-Stress Subject: Re: A Job Dear Nola, You have been on my mind and in my prayers all this week, and longer it seems. I really think you'd be a wiz at the kind of transcription I do as we have similar backgrounds. I had only a smattering of legal experience as a word processor for Air Canada (corporate headquarters in Montreal); and before that secretarial experience in a bank i.e., no formal training in legal until I started at McCarthy Tétrault LLP in Toronto. But I managed to convince them that I had enough " legal " experience for them to hire me, which they did on a temp basis at first from an agency. The large law firms (at least in Toronto) all have glorified secretarial pools where we do oodles of transcription for agreements; leases, etc. (if you're in corporate dept.) and pleadings (fancy name for statements of claim and defence and all that follows that in litigation dept.) This pool is called " Secretarial Services " and they call us " Technical Assistants " . Basically all they are looking for is an accurate, computer savvy person who can handle a lot of transcription (they test you first, but you'd have no problem passing -- this is where age is a plus as we've been typing for years, right??) I have been thinking you love this until something better comes along, I guess you are not near a large downtown area, are you? This kind of job is not so readily available in smaller firms where the gals do the dockets, accounting, phones, etc. I prefer to just do the straight transcription. There is some compilation, sorting, putting briefs together, but you learn all of that as you go. I am still learning. The nice thing is that law firms pay really well and they don't screw you re benefits -- they don't dare. There are even legal transcription services that hire and subcontract for the law firms, but here they tend not to pay as much as the law firms would pay you directly. There is a huge demand for typing of examinations for discovery, where the lawyers from each side interview the opposite side's guy(s) and record all the questions and answers and this becomes an official court document and part of the pleadings later on (goes into factums for trial). One examination on one interview on one day can be the side of a manual, so multiply that and you get the picture. Sometimes they are so badly done at the subcontractor's service that the typos are incredible. So sometimes the law firms do their own. Also, being a bona fide employee of the law firm (even p/t) gives one all the benefits of full-time (eg medications, dental, vision, disability, sick days at 12 per year). There are some excellent online legal dictionaries which would be useful to browse while you are waiting for interviews just you can get a bit of confidence there, but honestly, the terms are really few and far between, it is mostly facts, figures, names and dates!!! We also have personnel agencies here. I found many temp jobs through them and would often register with 3 at a time. At one point, I was refusing jobs (but not the first year- ack!!!! that was hell!!!) So, I feel I am going through this with you -- it was pretty black for a while as hubby's salary couldn't pay the bills and we were (are still) seriously in debt. So my heart goes out to you and know that I will be praying for you this evening while at work instead of complaining about the tediousness of it, I will " offer it up " for your success. Love and {{{{hugs}}}}} Dale > > > Oh you guys will not believe this. Guest guest
PJ, I had never heard of such a thing. Of course I wouldn't know much about it as I've only interviewed once in my life and that was almost 30 years ago.........lol. Have a super Sat., Hugs, Susie Susie, I agree with you for the most part. But, I was also taught to send a follow-up thank you note for their taking time to interview and meet with me. Guest guest
Thanks so much Charlene, I will do that. I am really excited to find out more....Hugs...Nola Nola, you can email me personally and ask me whatever you need. I will be more than happy to help you out! I am the Privacy Officer which is sort of the same as the Security Officer...just two different regulations. But, it's good that you know about this now because it's not only in Healthcare, it's in any type of banking/credit and education. I am sure everyone gets inundated with Privacy Notices in their credit card bills, their doctor's offices, etc....that's what this is all about. Guest guest
Awwww LOL this is so true Charlene, I find this to be true all the time. Sometimes I don't heed the signs though and I wish I had....Nola When things all seem to go wrong and it seems like I have to work harder and harder to get what I want and I keep running into roadblocks, I have to just stop and realize that it is just not suppose to happen. It can be the way the stars are in alignment, or which house Neptune is in, or a higher power trying to let me know that is not the route to go. If I don't listen and keep pushing to get my way, I later find out I am miserable and shouldn't have gone that route. When I just let it be and accept that things happen and ride out the storm, I find not only am I much happier and less stressed out, I end up being just where I need to be! Guest guest
I love it! Great idea, I just may try that on my next important interview. Well, not like they aren't all important but you know. Great idea though, wish I would have thought of that when I was going through my third interview with Medtronics up here. I really wanted that job bad. Hugs and Love...Nola Yeah, customarily, as a job applicant you thank the person interviewing you for their time and consideration. It's job hunting etiquette. Many times it sets you apart from the other people interviewing. For one job that I really wanted, I even sent a small bouquet of flowers to the person who interviewed me in HR...that definitely put my name out in front...I got the job. I even know someone who was going for a high-level job and he Federal Expressed his thank you noted to the person. Something that someone would take note of because 1) it had to be signed for and 2) the extra expense it took to mail it. These are just some of those things they teach at those job hunting places and charge thousands of dollars...and you are getting it free! Another benefit brought to you by Affirmations De-Stress! Guest guest
Susie and ! You will not believe this...I am so excited that I can hardly type. Ok here goes. I just got a call from a company that I wanted to interview with long ago. I sent them a resume some time ago and never heard anything for awhile Finally I got a call last week and the guy told me he would be calling me back. Well, he never did so I figured he found someone else right? The OWNER Himself JUST called me and said :Nola, Tell me you haven't found a job yet! " I was soooo excited, he wants me in tomorrow to interview with him directly for a whole different position as HIS " Executive Assistant " Whoa!!!! I would be taking a ton of his work and doing it myself. He says he has been looking for months for someone with my experience in the Food industry and when he saw my resume he told his associate to call me right away. Well, the associate called me for another position not this one. So the owner calls me and tells me " Nola, donot make a decision yet on any other position because I think you and I will work well together " He said this AFTER talking to me right now. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW I am so excited. I really hope this works out. It's quite the drive from here though but I can move over there in that area also. I would say it would be an hour one way and in the winter months when there is snow on the ground our rush hours around here it would take an hour and a half then one way. So, I told him that I would move into the area so that I would be accessible to his business whenever needed. He LOVED it and told me he has went through 150 resumes in the last couple weeks looking for someone like me. Guest guest
Nola, we told you today and tomorrow would be your lucky days!!!! I just knew it, I even felt it today!! We've all been praying for you and doing affirmations and you know, it just had to happen. Keep thinking positive thoughts and believe that it is already true, and believe " that your highest good will be done " . (Then, if for some reason, it does fall through, then you will know it wasn't right, and something else better is just around the corner). I just hope the guy isn't a pervert. Be careful, as when someone wants you or anyone that much, I always get a little suspicious. There I go again, with the fear. Maybe I shouldn't have said that. But, just watch your back, and be aware! Are your brakes getting fixed today?! I'm so very thrilled for you. Leave way early tomorrow for the interview and do everything you can so that things will go very smoothly and with no stress. So VERY happy for you!! Girl, you deserve it!! Let us know how it goes!
