Guest guest
News item I picked up today on the net.take care all.10/3/98 -- 2:02 PM France suspends mass hepatitis inoculations PARIS (AP) - Faced with a potential health disaster, France has suspended Hepatitis B vaccinations of school children, four years after a mass immunization program began. Health Minister Bernard Kouchner said inoculations were stopped because of fears that the vaccine could cause neurological disorders, in particular multiple sclerosis. ``It cannot be excluded that the vaccination might reveal or facilitate'' central nervous system problems, Kouchner said Thursday. Since 1994, 11-year-old French school children have been inoculated with a vaccine against hepatitis, a potentially deadly virus that attacks the liver. No scientific study has yet shown a certain link between the vaccine and multiple sclerosis. However, a Nanterre court ruled in June that there was sufficient evidence to conclude there was a connection between a vaccine produced by British drug maker Kline Beecham and multiple sclerosis symptoms in two people, according to Le Monde newspaper. Kline Beecham has appealed the ruling and a court order to pay roughly $23,000. Another ruling is pending in a case against French pharmaceutical company Pasteur-Merieux, which also produces an anti-Hepatitis B vaccine. The World Health Organization, in a statement issued Friday, expressed concern that the French decision would undermine its 100-country inoculation program and would ``lead to loss of public confidence in this vaccine, and decisions by other countries to suspend or delay the introduction of HB vaccine.'' The organization said the vaccine has an ``outstanding record of safety and efficiency.'' Kouchner's decision represents a new cautious approach to public health policy following two scandals in the past decade. France's national health system suffered a blow when it was revealed that in the mid-1980s health officials knowingly provided AIDS-tainted blood products to hemophiliacs. A former prime minister, t Fabius, and two other ministers are to stand trial for their roles in the scandal that left more than 500 people dead. Last year, authorities began investigation health officials for distributing potentially tainted growth hormones that may have killed up to 40 children afflicted with dwarfism in the mid-1980s. http://www.tampabayonline.net/news/news100g.htm Vaccinationsonelist wrote: >

Guest guest
I was wondering two things. First to Peggy, where did you get that great article / speach by Ben that was posted. I REALLY enjoyed it, and felt like sending it to one person in particular. Second, to anyone, I read all this information abot watching iron intake when you have hep. I dont eat meat, ( I am a vegetarian ), I try to eat a balanced light meals, ( a pizza once in a while is my only slip, well maybe coffee once or twice a month and some candy once or twice a month ). But now I keep reading about how I should not only stay away from extra iron, but also foods that are fortifide with it. I have found a few breads that have very low iron amounts, but I cannot find any cereals. I eat cereal all the time, and more than one serving, which means I am getting over 100% of my daily need of iron just in breakfast. Any suggestions for cereals. Thanks Corey

Guest guest
Hi Peggy (MGoo500300@...) Thanks so much for sharing the " letter to people without Hepatitis C " . I am trying to figure out a way to write two of my brothers who live on the opposite coast, but have each only reached out once to me, and that was minimally, in the 14 weeks that I have been on combo treatment. I have 10 weeks to go, because I am type 2b, and my 12-week viral load was non-detectable. Whew, what a relief! I am fortunate that I did not have any noticeable major symptoms of HCV prior to treatment, but my biopsy showed that I am Stage 3 and Grade 2, so doing the treatment was the best option for me. Now, on treatment, I am having quite a bit of side effects, that are very much like all the problems and symptoms associated with HCV that were explained in your friend's letter. I hope you don't mind, that when I do write my brothers to let them know my feelings, emotionally and physically, that I can use some of what your friend wrote, adjusted to fit my situation. Take care, Sara (SRW1954@...)

Remember our blood is infected and blood in urine can also mean blood in semen for u guys. Safe Sex. CurleyKew- Signs of varicies are blood in stool-either very visible blood or older blood which causes your poop to look like tar. You can either vomit blood or vomit what looks like coffee grinds(Old blood). Unless you have symtoms i wouldn' worry about it. BUT if u do havethese symptons go to the ER as fast as u can. Just don't panic.Relax. - " ...I dream then ask why not "

Guest guest
Beth, I am so sorry to hear about your situation. Stress plus lack of sleep can make one a person they normally would not be. Wait until you are rested to make a decision you would not want to be sorry for. I have done what you are doing now, caring for my mother in law. The hardest decision I ever had to make was to place her in an assisted living home. In the end it worked out well for all of us but not without alot of hurt and angry feeling to all people involved-(which have since been mended). At some point we all have to realize we cannot do it all though. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Now let's hope you don't get sick too with being so worn down. Hope you can get some sleep today. Hugs, Pam

Guest guest
Dear Friends, Oh Sleepless Sisters!!! Just a quick note to ask for your prayers and good thoughts today. Ben was home all of last week with a cold-turned bronchitis, and IS back to school today. (Thank God!) But his Nonni caught the same thing and the weekend was bad for her and last night was a nightmare. (Long story clipped short here). I was up with her every hour to help her on the bedside commode but she still managed to fall 3 x. No serious injuries but she is kinda dazed from coughing all night and no sleep, as am I. She goes to the doc this morning and now DH and I may have to be making some quick and important decisions about how much more we can manage. Of course, the daytime help isn't showing up this morning, and I don't know if we can get nightime help or not. But we might be having to make a decision about nursing home care for her pretty quickly. And I hate trying to think with no sleep. I'm feeling really bad about the whole situation because my nerves are pretty fried from hearing her cough and hack and sneeze. She is hyper sensitive to a lot of meds, so I feel guilty for being short with her. At any rate, I know you all understand. Thanks for listening. MB PS Remember the good news bad news I wrote about the other day (in reference to Maddie?) Well, the good news is, Ben found my sewing machine, plugged it in, and figured out how to press on the foot pedal with his hand to make it go. The very, very bad news is, Ben figured out the sewing machine. The good news is, he had the good sense (or protection from on High) to not try to touch the moving needle. Also, said machine is locking away, needle removed. EEEEEKKKK!!

Guest guest
, It sounds like you are enjoying yourself! I'm just adding my two cents to say that I'm not in favor of excluding any *real* food unless it's medically necessary. Also, in 1983 I bought an All Grain electric stone mill for my wedding present to myself, for $300, and it still works as well as ever. The flour is very fine. I like being able to use organic grains, and the flour is never rancid as store bought whole wheat flour usually is. We don't need to use sweetener in our pancakes and breads, and people comment on the clean fresh taste. Sweetener is needed more for white flour goods, to cover up the muddy flavor, and for rancid wheat flour products. So I think you will enjoy having freshly ground flour, too. In our neck of the woods, Arrowhead hard red winter wheat is most consistently the dryest. But that can vary by location. Best wishes, > Dear Sol and The Pavels, > > Thank you so much for your thoughtful responses to my questions about > including grains. Your words and ideas were helpful. Guest guest
You might also want to contact Carol Ann kson, who is the U.S. contact for Dr. Masgutova. I believe there may be an opportunity to get with Dr. Masgutova in Florida in 2006, but Carol Ann would have those details.
