Valtrex update---Feedback requested!

My son (age 8, 60 pounds) has been on the full dose of Valtrex (250 mg, 3X day)

and Diflucan (50 mg, 2X day) for 30 days. He's been strictly casein-free SCD

(still following Feingold Stage 2 as well) for 24 weeks. For at least fifteen

days while on Valtrex, he had a rash of rashes. (I didn't notice anything new

today.)

Mostly, he has had red scratch marks--ALL OVER HIS BODY. One morning, we'd see

a big scratch across his back, one on his cheek, and several on his thigh; the

next morning, those would have faded a bit, but we'd see a scratch above his lip

and more on his chest and a few on his arms. You get the idea.

He has also had rashes that looked like bug bites, others that looked like pin

pricks (like a family of porcupines had gotten to him), and a few that were

raised red welts (mosly in rectangular shapes, if that matters).

He has not run a fever. The past couple of days, his skin has smelled--maybe

like sulfur? (What is going on?) He's also had a few accidents in quick

succession--highly unusual for him, but not unprecedented.

Although we've had some great moments of heightened connectedness, I can't say

we've seen definite gains. (Certainly, no one else has commented on any

changes.) Gains could be masked by yeast, though. Lab results--from a sample

taken while on the Valtrex and Diflucan--just confirmed high yeast, and we've

certainly seen some of the signs (verbal stimming, spaciness, spinning,

occasional head slaps, etc.).

So . . . I'm planning to ask for a different anti-fungal, increase the

probiotic, and use GSE. Any other advice on what to do or what to look for?

We're planning to start the Cutler protocol for chelation this fall. We've just

done new IgG bloodwork as well as testing for ammonia and liver function.

Note that my son is also on MB12 shots, LDN, enzymes, CLO, and a custom compound

of vitamins and minerals.

Any feedback (advice!) would be welcomed.

Jacquie, the scratches are supposed to mean there is a problem with

the autonomic nervous system. I had them and that's what my

homeopath said. Here is a link.

http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/auto.html

He suggested I go see a Biofeedback person, I have yet to do that. I

believe there are different things a Biofeedback person will monitor

to see whats going on within the body. The one I was supposed to see

looks at respiration.

The website that I just googled for you has the ANS divided into 3

parts. Once when I took my son into my EAV naturopath, he

recommended fenugreek for him for the parasympathetic nervous

system. I give him 1/2 to 1 capsules of fenugreek from Nature's Way

that you can buy from any health food store. I am not sure if that

will be good for every kid out there. The other thing that came up

in that appointment was Pycnogenol, not sure if that was for the

parasympathetic system as well - I buy it from the Amy Yasko website

www.holistichealth.com and still need to go up to 1 a day.

For the enteric nervous system, you could go to the Amy Yasko

website (www.autismanswer.com) and see the supports she recommends

for the GI tract, pancreas and gall bladder. It again underscores

how important it is to have your ducks lined up before you start an

anti-viral regimen. The Yasko website is super for this total body

support.

Sorry I don't know any more about this.
