Guest guest
We are pretty new to it. Only about a week and half in. So far things are going better than anything else ever did. (both my kids are going now!! and we have transitioned my allergic son to whole milk with no problems whatsoever. The product I am using is called nutraflora by solaray. The type of prebiotic is called nutraflora. You can learn more about it at www.nutraflora.com. I spoke to the director of nutrition yesterday and she sent me some clinical trials on children, bifidus count and candida. This products been around for 20 years and is used in a ton of products in Japan. I am currently reading them and find them very technical. If you would like to see them I can email them to you. There is another really interesting website on another type of prebiotic call biumuno. www.bimuno.com the website is really well done and very informative. bimuno is for ages 3 and up and milk based so we decided to stick with nutraflora because it is dairy free and for ages 4 months and up and easier for the tummy due to its shorter chain. GNC sells a prebiotic that is a mix of nutraflora and bimuno. The contact at nutraflora said it is a good long term solution to curing constipation, it increases bifido bacteria by 5x in 4 weeks and the body does not build an intollerance to it like other fibers. Fiber didnt work for my kids:( We only use 1/8 teaspoon on the kids(half capsule), I am taking one capsule and I am a constipated one as well and it is working wonderful for me.I am usually very bloated at the end of the day and I just cant believe how much better I am already, this is the only thing I have ever done that has helped my bloating. It is very strong stuff, you dont need much. One of the studies that she sent me showed it was just as effective and in some cases more effective on adults at 1 gram. Which is 1/4 teaspoon. I also am still giving them juice. I bought ours at whole foods(solaray). Iherb has a much better deal on now foods nutraflora. either way its only between 8 and 13 dollars. If you try it on your child you might want to consider adding some gas drops for the first few days, the first 3 days I felt alot of gurgling in my sons tummy and the gas drops really settled that down. He doesnt seem to need them now. Feel free to ask me anything, I am an open book. If you want to get back to me in another week before you try it thats fine too. Sorry this was so long. Guest guest
Well, you've convinced me. Our ds is at a stalemate. He hasn't had a good bm in over a month. He's distended, has stopped eating and is cranky. He's not sleeping much either. Makes it hard to do well at school. We've doubled up the mag citrate and fish oil, added xylitol and increased water. With some things going on in our family and school starting, our meals have starting coming from boxes...terrible, terrible stuff so I think it's affecting him pretty bad. Will try the nutraflora and maybe the introduction of something new in his system will get things moving. Thanks for all the info on it!! ~ Tracie Which and where... Guest guest
I'm new. Have learned a lot in just a few days from reading all of your great info. I am still confused a bit...I have a lot of catching up to do. My 21 month old is taking one dose of Miralax every day right now...this is her third day. I am a super nervous mom when it comes to giving meds and am really hating giving this to her but she is crying in pain every night because her tummy hurts. The x-rays have shown that she is back-up even though she goes once a day. I want to find comfort and healing for her. Am I understanding that using the Horizon products without any other meds is causing soft stools for children? My daughter drinks Horizon milk daily. Thank you for your help. Which and where... Guest guest
Based on my personal experience and the experience of other mothers on here I would try everything and only used miralax as a last resort.. Trust your mommy gut, if it doesnt feel right it probably isnt. There are some great tips on the group with suggestions for alternative options for miralax. Feel free to reach out people are very helpful. Nutraflora is only in Horizon yogurt. Nutraflora is a prebiotic, The body cannot digest it, yeast cannot digest it and most or very little bad bacteria cannot digest it, good bacteria loves it. It takes time for the balance to restore and for the good bacteria to grow, but has been used for children 4 months and up, and has been around for over 20 years and has been studied in over 200 clinical trials. It has been studied on infants and adults for bowel frequency and softness and is proven effective. You can buy it a Iherb now nutraflora. Less is more with this stuff. We use 1/8 teaspoon and starting working for us within a week. Prebiotics are becoming very popular and have been very popular in Europe and Japan for years. If you want to learn more you can go to www.nutraflora.com another great website on a different prebiotic with a constipation story on it is www.bimuno.com (ages 3 and up) I just saw yesterday that Simalac has just released a new formula with a different type of prebiotic in it protesting imune system improvement. www.similac.com They do a very nice job of discussing prebiotics, they have a little movie on them.
