Chalo accha hua,both of u chipped in, to give me some feedback to my queries.

Firstly,Sorry Ashok,for mentioning that it was Renuka,when later, I

discovered,that was an email from U.

Secondly,Yes Renuka,I am aware that USMLE etc r for acceptance into Residency

programmes..and not for entry into Medical schools.

Now,reverting back to my questions..

I wanted to learn more about Sanjay's thought process..

What is the nature of the course,he has enrolled his daughter into,in Canada?

If he is a Permanent Resident of Canada,as many Asians,who have sought Landing

Status, many many yrs ago,tend to still hold their residency status,inspite of

living and working in India,like Ganesh(85) ,whose wise parents, seemed to have

done just that,many yrs ago,which helped him, get a good entry,as a naturalised

citizen into Canada's Medical system.

If Sanjay Marwah and family r not PR,then I was wondering,why not he could have

sent his daughter,to any Indian Medical colleges(if that was their sole aim) and

then later by giving USLME etc sought entry into their system,for Residency

programmes

..

The cost of educating,as U have rightly pointed,in Medical colleges in Western

World..is all too high even for Long time Residents of US/Canada..and so they

tend to send them to India..to do their MBBS,and I know a couple of close

friends who have done that,in recent times..

....and hence,I found Sanjay's plan..a bit different,in this above context...and

posed those queries

Dear Shyam,

Just wanted to clear a few things! Usmle etc are for acceptance in residency

and not in medical school! Inspite of that you will always be a foriegn medical

graduate (if you don't go to medical school here) and will always be regarded

so. That also means that you might not get into top fields like Derm,

cardiothoracic surgery and such.

Our kids who are born here and are citizens will also be treated the same if

they go to medical school out of US! Despite this fact a lot of parents in our

shoes are thinking about sending their kids to Manipal, other pvt colleges,

Carribean, New Zealand etc because of the sheer cost issues and tough

competetions. MCAT is very competitive exam plus minorities like hispanic and

African and American populations are given priorities. In this scenario I think

one should do what one think is right for their situation.

I don't know about medical school, but I think Canadian medical schools are

recognized here and they are accepted as residents.
