Guest guest
Oh, yes, we had done it all. He was basically constipated from birth, I first brought it to the doctor's attention when he was 2 months old and went 9 days without pooping. We have tried everything from Lactulose to Miralax (glad to be off it) to diet restrictions, etc. The GI did a barium enema at age 3 1/2 to check for any problems. Of course, he was extremely backed up (which could also be felt upon physical exam). We didn't have to do any xrays after cleaning him out - I could tell when the last of the "rocks" were out, and we were only getting massive liquid blowouts. Now he only takes 400mg of magnesium citrate a day to keep regular. It wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea to get an xray confirming cleanout if you aren't sure. I would go with your instincts - I have found most (though not all) doctors will only go with what they know works and aren't so open minded to alternative treatments. Guest guest
We used magnesium citrate liquid for our sons cleanout! It works great but does taste sour! I dont know if your son well drink or not! They do carry grape flavored now(still a little sour). The cramping/vomiting can be due to severe backup! The nose cleanout im pretty sure they may use the magnesium citrate, not 100% on this for all tube cleanouts, but this is what they was gonna use for my son if I couldnt get him cleaned out! Liquid stool could be also a severe backup sign(turns liquid and slips by the hard stuff). I thinking with all your son has had, he well get it out, this is the hard part of getting backup out. Our gastro told us to try and get all the citrate in within 2hours, it can be broken up over longer time but works best they said with in the 2 hours. Be sure and try to get lots of water in also to help make work better no matter what you use! Best wishes, he well do good! Guest guest
I wouldnt use anymore mineral oil enemas, usually a saline enema is recommended after to clean the oil residue, so you might as well just use the saline ones. The oils tend to stick to the intestinal lining. I wouldnt use the oral mineral oil either with the citrate oral! It can interfer with the mag citrate doing its job. This well cause issues with medication/vitamin absortion. The mag citrate well do the job. That is great if your son is willingly drinking this for you, be sure and get as much water in him with it also, this makes it work much much better. Glad you are seeing results.
