Guest guest
I have to agree with you my friend. This site should be a forum to share medical advice, new treatments, etc. If people want to talk to each other for anything else it should be off line. > > is this an Asthma site or social site? >
Guest guest
if you mean specific support for Asthma problems yes but all of the emails we receive each day regarding peoples personal problems are not appropriate. I am not sure what kind of response you are looking for. This is verydefinitely an asthma site. 90% or better of all the posts aredirectly related to asthma and conditions connected to or caused bythe treatment of it. However, for those of us who frequently post. We care very much about the other members, and bits of our personallives and personalities do come through. It is not so strictlyclinical that you can not be yourself. Personally, out of all thegroups I have looked at and been involved with. This group has themost informed and clinically active discussions while keeping a wellbalanced approach.Madeline>> is this an Asthma site or social site?>
Guest guest
the emails are not appropriate according to who? I too had a problem in the beginning, but got to know some of the regular posters better, and have actually learned to enjoy hearing about their lives. Most of the posts include something about their asthma in one way or another, and most of us have been pretty good at putting OT on the headers when it is off topic. The moderators and owner do not seem to enforce any hard and set rules...it seems they let us work out our problems without them getting too involved. We have been through some disagreements and misunderstandings, but it has seemed to bring us closer together. It has also brought out people who never post. I don't mind using the delete button it does not pertain to me. Some people post an answer to everything, and that is ok too. There are not a great choice of good asthma groups out there...our group here is what we make it to be...it is the best one out there in my opionion. We tend to share one thing in common of asthma, and it seems that some of us have other things in common as well. It is very difficult not to become sociable on here.... hugs, Cindi CD wrote: if you mean specific support for Asthma problems yes but all of the emails we receive each day regarding peoples personal problems are not appropriate. .. Guest guest
There can be a fine line between posting that is " off topic " and posts that are on topic. As an asthma educator, I like to talk to patients about their daily activities because sometimes I can identify environmental triggers that they may have not seen. Example, I had a patient who could not get her asthma under control. In casual conversation, I learned that she was letting her cats, yes cats as in 3 of them, sleep with her. Her asthma was worse in the morning. Go figure. I wouldn't have know that unless we were talking about funny things animals do. > > > > if you mean specific support for Asthma problems yes but all of the > > emails we receive each day regarding peoples personal problems are not > > appropriate. > > > > > > . > > > > >

Guest guest
THANK YOU CINDI! My blood is still boiling over this one. Guest guest
I'd like to back Cindi up here, especially as I don't recall either of the two complainants having posted before. Sometimes when I've had a tough day, I like coming back and reading the chatty stuff, especially the funny anecdotes as it humours me, and can put me back into the right frame of mind for lesson planning for the rest of the evening etc, but also when things are going bad for others, it puts my own issues into perspective. It's also interesting for me living in a different country to most of the people on here to see a different way of life, and also appreciate the way things are done in the UK more - frinstance, as much as we complain about the NHS, for all it's faults, actually I am very grateful for it after reading people's comments on here about medical costs. If you don't like it, no-one is forcing you to read! Jenn Tha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...! Don't brand me, don't classify me, don't tell me what to wear. I'll be who I want to be, and I'm proud to be me. if you mean specific support for Asthma problems yes but all of the emails we receive each day regarding peoples personal problems are not appropriate. .. Guest guest
This post was placed 2 days ago, so I may be behind the discussion here. Social support is a huge way of coping with stress. Stress is a large trigger for many folks. Therfore, the social nature actually aids some of the list-kin in their struggle against this disease. Myself, when I go my physician, I am looking for medical advice, but I much prefer a doctor who is also friendly and supportive. My current pulomonologist is warm and open. His staff treat me more as a neighbor than a patient. He openly (ok, brazenly) shares his faith in a way that one knows his stand, so that a patient may make a cognizant decision to be treated in a certain way, both medically and personally. Foe me, an asthma site can also be a social site. If I am not feeling social, I use the delete key and go for the information i need. My 2 cents worth.
