Guest guest
Hi everyone- I have a patient with breast cancer who is taking iodine, usually between 50 and 100 mg (yes, mg not ug) per day as well as applying it directly to her breast. She has been doing this for about a year under the recommendation of another doctor and we just did blood work since she hasn't had any with this other doc in the last year. Her TSH was 10.22 (obviously high) and her total T4 was 6.7 (lab normal, low on my optimum). I didn't think with that dose of iodine she would be hypo, unless she has just blown out her thyroid. Everything I've found on iodine talks about deficiency sx or hyperthyroid due to excess. Any ideas?
