Even after all I've done to prepare (assisted midwives, worked L & D, trained as a doula, certified childbirth educator -two different programs, certified lactation educator, private labor coach) , I still find myself needing more to be able to meet all of the needs of expectant couples, especially first timers! So, when you call to register, just ask who will be teaching and what her background is ... could make a difference. Cheryl

Guest guest
is basically correct here. As I understand it the reason was to change the focus from bleeding as the central event of the cycle to ovulation being the central event as reflected by the mucus symptom. This is outlined in a recent document posted on the WOOMB web site and referred to in a posting from Audrey . Len Blackwell (i.e., Professor ) and Hannah (i.e., Dr. Klaus): In the 1973 Proceedings of a Research Conference on Natural Family Planning - Edited by Uriccohia and (i.e., the proceedings from the 1972 Airlie House conference), and Billings have a chapter titled " Determination of Fertile and Infertile Days by the Mucus Pattern: Development of the Ovulation Method. " -- They were presenters at the conference. In their presentation they state: " By daily charting over a number of cycles, it became evident that women are able to recognize a mucus pattern which, by its time relationship to the following menstrual period, is clearly an indication of the occurrence of ovulation. " P. 151 " Later the women used the expression " keeping clear of the mucus, " which is the essence of what we decided to call the Ovulation Method. It was necessary to choose a distinctive title so that the technique could be recognized as radically different from the Calendar Rhythm Method. " P. 151 So the answer : ----- to be radically different - and mucus is a reflection of ovulation. J. Guest guest
I've been reading the list for awhile, and thought I'd introduce myself. I probably won't be very active besides reading, since I am not an NFP teacher yet, but I am a student midwife and doula and am interested in supporting NFP with my clients. I have been using NFP for about 7 years, but had some cycle irregularities since the birth of child #3, so it's been rather difficult. I was received into the Catholic Church 2 years ago, and that combined with the harmful effects of abc are enough to convince me to keep trying. -- Bekah <><Mom of 5Midwifery student in WIhttp://roadwelltraveled.wordpress.com/ http://valleybirthnetwork.tripod.com/

Guest guest
Both Billings and Creighton are several hours away, unfotunately. I just emailed the nearest CCLI to inquire about the next class. Part of my problem seems to be an inconsistency between temps and mucus. For example, when I conceived the last baby (third cycle from return of fertility after last baby), cervix still low and just starting to open and I had just started having a thick mucus on day 12. Now, I have always had long cycles and long periods, and had never ever ovulated before day 17, so I took the chance and bet it was still safe. Never take that bet. LOL I'd also been having 6 day luteal phases, so there'd been a lot of abstaining. So, day 12, I ovulate, as calculated after the fact because I always spot at 8 weeks of pregnancy. Mucus did not become fertile quality until day 15, when cervix rose. Peak day by chart is day 20, when temp also finally rose. However I was also sick this day. Second thermal shift occurs day 28, by which indicates pregnancy. I initially thought that I had conceived day 24, by miscalculating peak mucus and counting wrong. As I mentioned before, when I began my usual spotting, I recalculated. Baby arrived 40+2, which is actually early for me. I usually deliver at 42 weeks. , if you catch this, I tried to email your instructor but the email bounced. -- Bekah <><Mom of 5Midwifery student in WI http://roadwelltraveled.wordpress.com/http://valleybirthnetwork.tripod.com/
