Guest guest
I know that some of you see allergists to treat your asthma. I regularly see a pulmonologist to treat mine, who monitors my meds and gives me breathing tests, etc but I do still have flare ups. I have allergies but they rarely seem to trigger an asthma flare up so I am trying to decide if it is worth it for me to see an allergist, as my PC dr has suggested. What is involved in allergy testing, and do they just test for environmental allergens, or food allergens as well? Is it a blood test, skin prick test, or something else? I am not keen on the idea of having to take allergy shots every week for years at a time, and also fearful of having a reaction to the shots. I remember having been tested once when I was a kid, a pin prick test of maybe 10 kinds on the skin and my skin reactions were so bad the dr. gave me a shot of cortisone afterwards. I seem to have allergic reactions to everything from dust, to pet dander, to ragweed, mold, etc. Thanks for any info you can share,
Guest guest
, I went on my own to see an allergy/asthma specialist as my pcp can only do but so much for it, I was tested both ways, blood and the scratch test, that checks for all allergies, a full test will go alot father and really get into if your allergic to bees and such. Have you asked your current dr if he does those type of testing so you know just exactly what your dealing with so you know what to avoid to help better help you control your asthma? Terry I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much. ~Mother Teddy Bear's Early Learning ProgramEstablished August of 1992 From: asthma [mailto:asthma ] On Behalf Of lilli_nycSent: Saturday, August 16, 2008 8:38 AMTo: asthma Subject: Allergy testing & Asthma I know that some of you see allergists to treat your asthma. Guest guest
My PC and pulmo dr don't really do this, they prescribe meds based on my symptoms but as far as specific testing goes, my PC suggested I just go see an allergist since that is basically the only dr left I haven't seen for all my various ailments! I guess I am just weary of all the drs and all the testing and all the meds that I just do not want to do any more than necessary at this point. > > , I went on my own to see an allergy/asthma specialist as my pcp can > only do but so much for it, I was tested both ways, blood and the scratch > test, that checks for all allergies, a full test will go alot father and > really get into if your allergic to bees and such.
