Guest guest
I too clicked on the raw milk website in search of raw milk sources. I would like to find a source for year round raw cow milk. Thanks for the lead. I can get raw goat milk from my uncles farm when in season for a few months in the summer. I freeze it and use it to make ice cream throughout the year. Freezing doesn't seem to harm the milk in any way. His goats are pasture fed and I can't tell any difference between his goat milk and cow milk when it's cold. However, when I've heated it to make pudding it gets a very strong flavor. So we just use it cold. I use half goat milk and half creme fraiche to make wonderful ice cream.

Freezing changes the texture but not the substance. I get raw milk shipped to me frozen. > how does goat milk compare to cow? Many people who have problems with cows milk can well tolerate goats milk. I was just visiting with my Dad and wife, they both grew up on farms in Georgia in the 30's. They remember that a doctor's prescription was needed to get goats milk, which was used for needs infants. > > one of my uncles is a farmer and is bound to know someone with a cow (or > goat). i will ask him re sources. It is NOT easy. There are few sources. It is illegal to sell it in the state that ships it to me, and illegal to receive in my state... so I'm breaking the law... Hopefully your farmer uncle knows someone with a cow or goat. > > i also looked under " local chapters " back at the foundation's site, and the > closest one is in TN. i will be moving to SC later this yr so will probably > end up starting one there. > > i am going grocery shopping a la SF tomorrow and will begin trying out > recipes from the bk. i plan meals for my invalid mother, my not-so- well > father, and our helper from tanzania, so wish me luck. If you can, try to use fresh and organic items as much as possible. anne > > thanks-- > allene
