Madeline, I have heard of several people that do not see any clinical effects of Xolair for up to a year. I was on it for 6 months with no relief a couple of years ago. Recently a new pulmonologist started me back on it thinking I might be one of the people that takes longer. I have not been on less that 40 mg a day of prednisone in over 9 years so I am really hoping that this time the Xolair helps! I have been on it for 3 months so far this round.

Kathleen/BarbMy IEg levels are in the 560 range. Way high. The prednisone hassuppressed them some. As of yesterday they were 270. Still way high(should be around 30). We tried the Xolair for 3 months with noclinical effect. It just did not work for me.

,

We have started methotrexate in hopes of facilitating a stepdown on

the prednisone. Did they ever try that with you?

I am seeing a pulmonologist on Monday with a view of getting on Xolair. My internist did bloodwork looking at my IgE and said that it was 'normal.' I now wonder if this will exclude me from Zolair.

They tried it with dexamethasone and unfortunately it didn't make a difference.

My IGE level was not incredibly high but my pulmonologist said that there was no way they could get an accurate reading with me having been on a fairly high dose of prednisone for so long.

He didn't tell you what the number was? They always tell me. Maybe

because mine is so high. I know that my doc will try it on anyone

above the 30 mark if other meds like Singulair or Zyflo don't bring

it down. The big problem is getting it covered on your insurance,

and since it was an internist and not a pulmonologist or asthma

specialist, his view of " normal " may be different from the other

docs. I have four docs now who will look at the same CT and tell me

four different things. Go figure.

I am unfamiliar with dexamethasone. Is it similar to methotrexate?

Nope . . . no numbers. The nurse called my wife who called me. i am seeing a pulmonologist in Anchorage next week. We've had our first 3" of snow and I will have to drive through some nice mountain passes, so the trip may prove interesting. I'll let you know what I hear next week. Thanks for the info.

I am on xolair. I have been on it for eight months and am just NOW starting to see improvement. I haven't been to the ER since July which is a record for me! I am a nonresponder to steroids so prednisone does nothing for me. Also, I have to change my steroid inhalers about every three to four months. I just started Alvesco which meant I had to go back on foradil because it doesn't have the combo effect like Advair and symbicort (both of which I have used to no avail) Right now I take xolair, alvesco, foradil, cromolyn, allegra D, zyflo, and lopressor

Please do Mike, and be careful on that drive. I grew up in Wyoming.

So, I do have an inkling of what you are talking about!
