Guest guest
I'm a dental hygienist, and from what I was taught in school, mouth ulcers are usually caused by excess acid, not viruses. Guest guest
Mouth sores are a herpes virus. I have had them since early childhood terribly!! (now gone thanks to OLE). you are seeing sores because your son has this virus in his system and the valtrex is helping it run it’s course and suppressing it. They are one of the healing regression signs that you are looking for. I cheered when I saw my son have his during healing regression. - From: mb12 valtrex [mailto:mb12 valtrex ] On Behalf Of samsmom032003 Sent: Monday, September 18, 2006 11:06 AM To: mb12 valtrex Subject: Re: mouth ulcers while on valtrex I'm a dental hygienist, and from what I was taught in school, mouth ulcers are usually caused by excess acid, not viruses. Guest guest
, Thanks for replying- how long should I expect this "healing regression" period to last? He periodically "looks" sick (bloodshot eyes, tired) when he isn't sick in a traditional sense. I've always felt like a virus was "flaring up" and then his body manages to overcome it. Should I contact his doctor- do we need to do anything else or just ride it out? Thanks so much! RE: Re: mouth ulcers while on valtrex Mouth sores are a herpes virus. Guest guest
, Healing regression lasts 6-40 days. My son was on a myriad of supplements like antioxidants, zinc and milk thistle so I knew he had the proper support while dealing with the virus stage. I treated his illness during this period as I would have any other. With fever more than 3 days I would call the dr., make sure he was not overly lethargic, push fluids, etc. With the cold sores hopefully they run their course a dr. would only give you a prescript for valtrex or a topical cream anyway. Good luck, From: mb12 valtrex [mailto:mb12 valtrex ] On Behalf Of ginavalintine0318@... Guest guest
Hi , It's a good question. Without Valtrex there wasn't sore and with Valtrex there was... so is the Valtrex causing them?... one might ask. Well indirectly yes... but likely not because of a side effect... more likely from a viral disruption that is causing a new type of expression. In my mind it tells me that there is a virus onboard and that virus is effected by the therapy but there is still more to do to get it under control. According to reports, the approach that works best for our kids is: 1. Dosing Valtrex three times a day 2. Having Diflucan or Nizoral onboard as well 3. Maintaining a complex carb and starch free diet (SCD - IGG Food Allergies is my favorate). 4. Dosing with probiotics away from the antifungals (and food, if possible). Also, if I continued to see mouth sores I would lighted up on OR remove nuts from the diet as well. Nuts in some children can purpetuate viral infection and it has been linked to herpatic sores of the mouth. That's where I would start. To me it looks like you are moving in the right direction and I would keep going and fine tune your approach. IMO that will probably do the trick. Keep us posted. - Stan > > Hi- I'm new to this board and have a question. My son has been on > valtrex twice a day for 3 months and in that three months, has had > mouth ulcers twice. Guest guest
Dear Stan, please explain what you mean by, "linked to herpatic sores in the mouth". How are they linked? This is a very important question to me, the light is starting to break through...Stan Kurtz wrote: Hi , It's a good question. Guest guest
Just in case this might be helpful. I have one daughter who had mouth ulcers continually since she was about three. We made trips to the dr. and supplemented with vitamins and nothing seemed to work until someone told us about biotene tooth paste and mouth wash. It has been an amazing preventive, we have not seen a mouth ulcer for two years. I have to say I am pretty impressed with how well it worked. Anyway thought I would pass it on in case it would help your son. I know for my daughter this was a major reason for her not eating many foods as so many things bothered her mouth and I am happy to report that her diet expanded a great deal when we dealt with the sores in her mouth. Here is a link to a little "ask the Dr article about mouth sores". http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/8367/can_you_get_rid_of_canker_sores_dealing.html (who mainly lurks and learns) Re: Re: mouth ulcers while on valtrex Dear Stan, please explain what you mean by, "linked to herpatic sores in the mouth". Guest guest
Cold sores used to plague me, but they have disappeared thanks to L-lysine supplementation. It's an amino acid and shouldn't have any side effects. You give quite a bit at the first sign of sores (like 1000mg several X/day or more for adults) and they truly disappear. Everyone I've ever recommended it to has reported success as well. I know circumstances are different here with the valtrex on board, but it would be worth a try. Ask a pharmacist or doc if you want a 2nd opinion on this. Ingrid > > > > Hi- I'm new to this board and have a question.
