Yes! I haven't made it yet, but you can learn how at this great group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Kefir_making/?yguid=408502367

When I come back from my travels, i plan on making the water kefirs,

as they sound delicious.

Be well,

Closest thing would be other fermented foods such as saurkraut.

Hi Mara,

Yes, there is coconut milk kefir. You can make coconut milk yourself with fresh

coconuts or you can buy canned organic coconut milk from the health food store.

I make milk and coconut milk kefir and love them both.

Re: Is there a non dairy kefir?

Yes, there is a Water Kefir, there is much info on Kefir here:

http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/~dna/kefirpage.html

If you can get the milk Kefir grains and make Kefir yourself, I believe you can

make it with things like almond and other nut milks, and coconut milk. I know

people who make it with Soy milk (eeew!).

Also there are Yahoo groups where you can ask for Kefir grains, most people give

them away for shipping costs.

regards

Kirsty
