Guest guest
Beth, There are a bunch of photos in the in the database from some other parents of rashes. I haven’t taken a picture of CJ’s yet but I will try to tonight when he comes home from school. I googled molluscum contagiousum under images and found a bunch of pictures. They don’t all resemble his. CJ’s are not red they are skin colored and raised bumps in one patch on his chest. I don’t think they are itchy because he doesn’t seem to scratch them. Also it has never changed it’s place. Dr. Buie told me that the rash could last up to a year. Another parent on another board told me her son also has it and got it about a week after starting HBOT. The Dr. told her he sees about 1 child a week with it. I had never heard of it and when I researched it they said less than 5% of children in the US get it and usually it is with immune compromised patients. Which of course our children are. How long has your son had the rash? Did it start with Valtrex? - From: mb12 valtrex [mailto:mb12 valtrex ] On Behalf Of mbcomfort Sent: Thursday, October 12, 2006 12:36 PM To: mb12 valtrex Subject: Re: Molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV) -Stan Is there a picture of this rash anywhere that would help me decide if my son has it, too? He has bumps all over his cheeks on his face. Beth

Guest guest
, He is on actos right now (and, of course, a slew of other things!) He only really has them on his cheeks and maybe on the back of his arms. They look like little pimply things-almost with a head but not as big as a typical pimple. They don't seem to bother him. I did google molluscum and found many pics. I know my older son had this on his chest a few years ago. It left scarring-almost like a pox. They were definitely bigger. My 6 year old has had this for about 7-10days. With our kids it always seems like something! Beth
Guest guest
Thank you for telling me this . I will have to watch my NT kids to see if they end up with them. My son only got this rash as a result of starting valtrex so I was thinking it was a latent virus and most of the time when viruses appear during this treatment it does not seem to be contagious. Obviously he’s had it latent in his system for quite a while and never was shedding it. Probably treating it orally with valtrex or ole is better than doing a surface treatment. I’ll feel better once I am able to get him back on the valtrex. I have been to the dermatologist, and the peditrician, and they both told me it is common in kids under 10, because they are always touching stuff, and not washing often enough. It is a virus, and the docs both said it has to run it's course. It can take up to 2 years to be gone. They will treat it, if you want with beetlejuice at the dermatologist, but it will only burn off the ones that are on the surface of the skin, more could come out later since it is a virus in the body. Also, you can treat it with Aldara (I think that is the name) the genital wart cream, I may have the name wrong, but the virus' are related. Hope that helps, and please know it is not just " our " kiddos that have this---like I said--- all the kids in my neighborhood have this. > > , > He is on actos right now (and, of course, a slew of other things!)
