Guest guest
Yep, it's been two and a half years and I still have those moments when I think, " A drink would taste great right now! " For that matter I don't remember when I quit smoking and I still have those moments when I think, " A cigarette would taste great right now! " Especially after eating some spicy Tex-Mex food. Doug > Great, thanks Doug. Its gonna be hard to give up that 1 glass.........
Guest guest
Hi Jellyfish, I'm in Australia too! I can only answer one small part of your questions but it's a start eh? My partner only last week had some blood drawn for genotyping. So it's at lease one blood test more. Not sure about biopsy because it's not been offered to Daryl. Oh, and I think you'll find you'll respond much better to the treatments if you can cut alcohol out all together. anne (from NSW) Newbie questions Hey guys, just another question for you. How do I find out my viral load and genotype? Is this through a liver biopsy? Also, and I may just be being paranoid, but does anyone get sort of niggling sore throats that never really develop into a cold? Is this a Hep C thing? And I'm really interested to know some more about the effects of alcohol on the virus. I don't drink very much, but probably once a week I have a glass of wine. Do I need to stop altogether? Does anyone have any references for this? Thanks again, Jellyfish --------------------------------- Find local movie times and trailers on Yahoo! Movies. Guest guest
Hey anne, I'm in NSW too! Sydney actually. Do you have Hep C or just your partner? I'm intrigued about this quick treatment thing, but I guess I have to wait and see what the liver clinic says. I know for sure we don't get Pegasys here yet. I think I will give up my 1 glass of wine.....sniff sniff, well I'll try really hard anyway..... anne wrote: Hi Jellyfish, I'm in Australia too! Guest guest
I'm a couple of hours south of you Jellyfish. My partner has Hep C and End Stage Liver Disease. We went to hell and back in the second half of last year when Daryl spend 12 weeks in RPA fighting for his life. So I'm intimately aware of RPA's excellent reputation treating liver disease. They're brilliant at their job I can assure you. Thankfully I never contracted Hep C from Daryl (well not yet anyway) and there's only a minute chance that I will contract it after all these years. I think the only treatment available here is Pegasus and Interferon but I *think* an alternate combo treatment is about to land on our shores. It would be worth asking the Gastro when you go see them. Giving up that glass of wine won't be nearly so bad if you substitute it with a healthier alternative like a fruit and/or vege juice. Serve it in your wine glass and pretty it up with some mint leaves or a strawberry and you're brain will think you've just changed to a cocktail instead! Beetroot, celery, carrot, apple, orange juices are all great liver friendlies. Mix them all together and they have an unusual sweet taste. V8 is a nice savory flavour for something different. Just a thought anyway. anne Newbie questions Hey guys, just another question for you. How do I find out my viral load and genotype? Is this through a liver biopsy? Guest guest
Hmmm, sorry, fruit juice in a wine glass just won't trick me! No biggie tho, its just a matter of getting used to things. RPA sounds good. I have an appointment at Royal North Shore, and am hoping its with a liver specialist and not the nurse. Thats good news that you never contracted the virus. I'm worried about my partner as over xmas we went on a camping holiday, I forgot my toothbrush and had to use his for 2 weeks in the bush. I only found out I had the virus in January. I would feel so bad.......but anyway, not much I can do about it now. Take care and speak to you soon Jellyfish anne wrote: I'm a couple of hours south of you Jellyfish.
