Guest guest
maybe your giving too much and it's staining. you have to find the right balance. too much and you have staining and non-control. not enough and you have constipation !!! gosh, what we go through ! if he's not autistic and understands the consequences how about telling him he'd have to wear those big kid pull-ups to camp unless he goes on the toilet ?? i did find with abby that too much vitamin c can cause her to stain her pants and sometimes it's a lot where it looks like she pooed her pants, but didn't really. have you tried MOM twice a day. we are having great success on it. and i use vitamin c as needed. kathy happy 4th to you all !!!!! p.s have just purchased Lifetime Cal/Mag citrate plus vitamin D, liquid from iherb and it tastes like blueberry. you may need to find something that tastes yummy like that. vent - tired of poopy pants What do I do with my kid? I'm so frustrated and becoming so angry at him... We've been working TEN years on this issue...we've done and tried everything. I can't imagine what more to do. Our ds is 10 - he's at an age where he fights drinking his Nature Calm, doesn't want me to see what he's doing in the toilet ("Oh, I forgot. Sorry mom.") Yet, he continues to have accidents and he has times where he says he's too busy or having too much fun CHOOSES to poop his pants! WTF! How does a 10-year-old decideto poop his pants!! He's supposed to leave for Bible camp on Sunday. I'm so not wanting to send him - he's going to end up being the "kid at camp who poops his pants." We've (my dh and I) have talked with him about this possiblity and he says he doesn't care...it's their problem if they don't like it. Huh??? We've tried explaining it's HIS problem - he has to take responsiblity for his body. I just emptied out his swim bag and an old pair of poopy underpants was in there...the backpack is ruined. It also makes me wonder if he was in the pool when he pooped?! Argh!! How do we make this end? Sorry I'm going off on such a beautiful day - I'm not sure what to do, how to get him to believe that pooping in the toilet is where all people go!! It's creating some serious havoc on our family... Guest guest
Sorry you are going through this!! Are you sure he knows he is pooping? Maybe he doesnt have the sensation of stool moving(a commen after/side affect of cronic constipation and laxatives...loss of gi sensation)!! At 10 im kinda wondering this? If you are 100% sure he does know, then maybe camp well make him more concious/not want to be teased etc! I know that seems harsh, but maybe that is what it well take! But im still thinking he may not even realize it still!! I sure hope you can get through this! Guest guest
Is he neurotypical? Could it be an (emotional/psychological control issue? If not that, then it has to be the other control issue - as Jennie stated. I can't imagine a child WANTING to be teased since he smells like poop. > > > Subject: vent - tired of poopy pants > To: miralax > Date: Friday, July 4, 2008, 3:40 PM > > > > > > > > What do I do with my kid? Guest guest
You know that this is called encopresis, right? And that it's caused by stool leaking around an impaction? (See http://www.emedicinehealth.com/encopresis/article_em.htm#Encopresis%20Overview.) My guess is that it's not that you're giving him too much Natural Calm, but maybe too little. I can sympathize because my four-year-old also refuses to take it, or any magnesium supplement, regularly. But for a ten-year-old maybe you could teach him to swallow a pill so he could take Oxypowder or something? And then the flavor wouldn't matter. I don't think it's true that he doesn't care what others think...I think he's saying that just to get you off his back about it. Ten-year-olds just don't like talking about poop! (I also have a ten-year-old girl myself, with suspected constipation, and she will NOT talk about it...very frustrating!) Lately, for my four-year-old, I have been focusing on probiotics because they're easier to get into her than magnesium (she went on a cereal kick and only wanted to eat cereal and nondairy milk, so I seized the opportunity to add probiotics to the milk). And I have noticed that when she does have probiotics twice a day for a few days, it seems to reduce the streaking and other leakage...she still is passing some small poops that she's not too aware of, but they're formed rather than soft liquid, which I *think* may represent improvement...because if they're formed I think she can develop better awareness for using the potty. I wonder, too, if rotating forms of magnesium might help? I've been thinking about doing this with my daughter...since she catches on if I try to sneak magnesium into the same kind of beverage too many times in a row... I personally think that of all the forms of magnesium we've talked about on this list, Oxypowder is the most effective, but only if taken on an empty stomach. I actually have tried all the stuff I give to my daughter to see what it does to me (I seem to be prone to constipation if I eat too many grains or starches and definitely if I start consuming any dairy products). And Oxypowder is the only thing I tried that didn't give me cramps...I think it's much gentler and more effective than anything else. Unfortunately my daughter thinks it tastes terrible! Anyway, good luck! I hope things work out with the camp...Bonnie What do I do with my kid? I'm so frustrated and becoming so angry at him... Guest guest
Yes, he states he knows he's going/gone. He says he does it cuz he's too busy playing or having too much fun. We've done A LOT of behavior mod - rewards, losing privileges, consequences...the only thing we haven't done is blantant punishment - which I'm contemplating, but don't want to do. Mommtlc asked if he's neurotypical...he's high-functioning aspergers and has sensory integration disorder - which all ties in with the social thing (and did tie in with not feeling the urge to poop - but that is positively under control). Once he gets playing, he gets a little weird about stopping. He's afraid everyone will go home and he'll be out of friends. He transitions HORRIBLY in any facet of life, so stopping to play is just one more transition. We've tried having him go at certain times of the day (we've done where we tell him when to go and we've done where he chooses when to go) but it's always hit or miss with that. There are times he truly has accidents - he's honest about it (where he'll actually tell us he pooped his pants vs. he didn't know it happened - "I thought I tooted."), so I don't want to lose his honesty. I know there's no one perfect answer...I'm just SO sick of this. We've done everything we can to help him. Currently, when he knowingly poops his pants, it's HIS job to clean out his underwear and pants/shorts and put everything in the washing machine/dryer. He says he doesn't care...about any kind of consequence. Losing video games, losing friend time, losing treats, winning treats/video/prizes - nothing motivates him at all. It seems like a control thing. Until he WANTS to poop in the toilet, there's nothing we can do - or is there?? This is where I'm lost. Ugh - well, time to go to bed! vent - tired of poopy pants> To: miralax > Date: Friday, July 4, 2008, 3:40 PM> > > > > > > > What do I do with my kid? Guest guest
Sometimes it is encopresis, sometimes it's just "I'm gonna poop my pants now and deal with it later." Does anyone have ideas on how to teach a kid to swallow a pill? I couldn't learn until I was much older, I fear it's the same for him. I'd love for him to be able to swallow his mag/cal and probiotics. Speaking of probiotics, what can it be added to? I'll have to try the milk - everyone once in a great while we'll let him have chocolate milk. Anything else it can be added to? We use the powder... Guest guest
I open up the probiotic capsule and dump it into my daughter's cereal when she has cereal and (nondairy) milk...that's the only way I can consistently get it into her, these days...we also have used Nature's Way primadophilus chewable capsules, but mostly as a last resort because she has to take five of those to get the same dose as one of the capsules... We have done chocolate or carob milk too, but believe it or not she goes through phases even with that...she currently won't drink chocolate milk!! Maybe it's because she knows I'm liable to sneak something into it... Bonnie Sometimes it is encopresis, sometimes it's just " I'm gonna poop my pants now and deal with it later. I've been thinking about doing this with my daughter...since she catches on if I try to sneak magnesium into the same kind of beverage too many times in a row...I personally think that of all the forms of magnesium we've talked about on this list, Oxypowder is the most effective, but only if taken on an empty stomach. We've been working TEN years on this issue...we've done and tried everything. I can't imagine what more to do. Our ds is 10 - he's at an age where he fights drinking his Nature Calm, doesn't want me to see what he's doing in the toilet ( " Oh, I forgot. Sorry mom. " ) Yet, he continues to have accidents and he has times where he says he's too busy or having too much fun CHOOSES to poop his pants! WTF! How does a 10-year-old decideto poop his pants!! He's supposed to leave for Bible camp on Sunday. I'm so not wanting to send him - he's going to end up being the " kid at camp who poops his pants. " We've (my dh and I) have talked with him about this possiblity and he says he doesn't care...it's their problem if they don't like it. Thanks for your listening ears. If anyone has anything to say, please do so. Here's hoping your 4th is awesome!

Guest guest
I personally would not let him go to camp. I also have a ten year old with constipation issues. He is very embarrassed about it. He never has any serious accidents, just mild ones occasionally. He is involved in tons of sports some times 2 sports at a time. He has been playing sports with the same kids for 5 years now. They do a lot together, I try to be the parent that is there with them, and a lot of the things they do are at my house, so I can help keep him from an embarassing situation. According to the docs his balloon test showed that the holding area has been slightly damaged due to withholding. He does not feel the urge "to go" when he is suppose to. By the time he feels the urge he is extremely full and it is harder to get out. He is taking probiotics and Fiber Choice. I think I need to increase his watery foods (cantelope, watermelon, cucumbers, pineapple, etc...) and lots of spring water (I've been told that is the only water that doesn't destroy the gut flora), all of those things really help, but I have to stay consistant with it. I sometimes get too comfortable and forget that those things are what really makes the difference. Guest guest
I have been through the angry stage also, now after all the testing, I know he has a real medical problem. I do still get frustrated with him not wanting to talk about it, if we don't talk about it I can't help him. The few weeks ago, he spent the night with one of his friends. At 11:30pm I got a call saying that Cody was buckled over with abdominal pain and crying. He has has quite a few medical issues since January (we just recently found out what has been wrong that the docs couldn't explain: Epstein Barr Virus). He also has been diagnosed with severe allergies which has caused Eosinophilic Esophagitis. So, I had no idea which problem was going on with him. We get to the ER, they did a sonogram because they thought it was his apendix. They could not see the apendix because he was soo full. They gave him a milk of molasses enema and told him to try real hard to hold it for 20 minutes (boy, they didn't know they were talking to a professional withholder), 45 minutes later he went and went and went, he also threw up. Guest guest
Deanna, how did they come up with Epstein Barr with symptoms like these? abdominal pain is not associated? The clinical diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis is suggested on the basis of the symptoms of fever, sore throat, swollen lymph glands, and the age of the patient. Usually, laboratory tests are needed for confirmation. Serologic results for persons with infectious mononucleosis include an elevated white blood cell count, an increased percentage of certain atypical white blood cells, and a positive reaction to a "mono spot" test. Is there any way you could call me? Jeaniedeanna gentry wrote: I have been through the angry stage also, now after all the testing, I know he has a real medical problem. Guest guest
This was the Infectious Disease doc that ran these tests. OMG, have you ever been to one of those? They are really good, these docs are what you expect a doc to be like, and they never are. SO smart, and very interested in how things are affiliated with one another, and into research. He was awesome. Anyway, to answer your question, Cody had all of those symptoms in January, but the main thing he was concerned about was his energy level, Cody's energy level was so low, I mean real low for him. No other docs would recognize it. They always said he looked fine (well, not in January, he looked pathetic), but after that they thought he looked fine, he may have looked fine, but he didn't look like him, he looked horrible, so pale, so tired, no energy. I explained it to this doc like this: Cody normally has so much energy, he is constantly getting in trouble for running in the house, and jumping across the furniture, sliding on the floor (practicing baseball). Once he got sick, he did not do that any more. I told them that when I see him acting like that again I will know he is better. I also explained to him that when we went to by Cody a dog, we wanted to get a dog that matched his personality. We got a Jack Terrier, perfect match. He totally understood what I was saying, that is when he told me it did not sound like he had Guilliam Barre it sounded more like EBV and Mono, I told him he had already been tested (spot test) 3 times, because numerous docs felt like that was what it was. He said the spot test can be negative sometimes, he ran a more conclusive test, and yes it was positive. Guest guest
The abdominal pain, is spoken for by the Eosinophilic Esophagitis, it is one of the symptoms. But the ID doc said the abdominal pain could have also been caused by a swollen spleen caused by the mono or swollen pancreas. He is going to do some research since I told him about the white blood cell thing, both EE and Mono/EBV have white blood cells, I really believe it is related. He said he would have to research it for me, He doesn't know a whole lot about EE. Guest guest
I can guarantee you that this was caused by peg..........ask any of the parents on here how their child looked ill, pale, etc. this is a poisoning symptom. I want to see how the test to see what they are looking at, what tests positive etc. could you retreive a copy or explanation on how they come to this conclusion? Failure to thrive is written all over the FDA adverse events and ill feeling etc. I'm wonder what numbers on their blood they are looking at and how the come to this conclusion? I'm going to ask my doc this am..................... If this was a normal child then I'd say, alright, they might be correct, but I've studied the comparables for 8 years and I see a pattern over and over of the same side affects you're mentioning and I want to know how they are coming to this conclusion? Someone needs to download all the FDA adverse reactions and hand them to their doctors and ask them again, if they'd like to re-think their diagnosis...................... Jeaniedeanna gentry wrote: This was the Infectious Disease doc that ran these tests. Guest guest
They are forgetting one huge factor here, what did he do differently before this all happened? He ingested PEG! Why do they not look at that? I think the PEG burned the mucosa which caused the EE and now you end up with elevated white blood cells, swallon lymph nodes etc. These are all poisoning symptoms. We need to find someone who knows something out chemical toxicity and what they do to the body. If you go to a doctor, they will find a virus or condition, but we are dealing with chemicals here and we should be looking for an expert on chemicals and what they do to the body......................deanna gentry wrote: The abdominal pain, is spoken for by the Eosinophilic Esophagitis, it is one of the symptoms.
